Watch Alec Saunders’ Keynote at BlackBerry Jam Asia 2013

Comments

I like this guy’s energy. It’s like the passion of Ballmer’s “developers!” speech but more modest and genuine. Alec Saunders took the stage to talk about the progress of BlackBerry 10 and the BlackBerry ecosystem. There’s some really interesting stats in his keynote, including the fact that BlackBerry 10 technically has more apps in its ecosystem compared to other ecosystems at their same point in time. Check out the video and some of the stats.

Balkan BlackBerry Developer Group Organizes BlackBerry 10 Mini Jam

Comments

The Balkans BlackBerry Developer group recently helped organize a “Mini” BlackBerry 10 Jam conference, although with over 200 developers present, it wasn’t exactly mini. The event was held in Maribor, which is the second largest city in Slovenia, at the Maribor Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The event featured learning sessions and what looks like an awesome after party – all the essential features of a great developer conference. Hit the jump for more details and pics from the event.

BlackBerry Jam Conference in San Jose is More Apps Less Games

Comments

We’re at BlackBerry Jam in San Jose, California and there’s something interesting about the session catalogue: a total lack of anything ScoreLoop related and very little about gaming. This is probably a conscious decision on the part of RIM as BlackBerry World was almost too much gaming and the company may have gotten some flack from app developers about it. It would have made sense for RIM to be a little more open about the fact that this is not a gaming related conference, and that the focus will be on utility-style apps.

BlackBerry Jam Austin Attendees Share Some Thoughts About BlackBerry 10

Comment

We’re just wrapping up some video here from the BlackBerry Jam Tour that came through Austin, Texas. I had the chance to chat with some of the attendees at the show and get a feeling for what they like about BlackBerry 10 as well as a little about where they’re coming from. There’s a long road to BlackBerry 10 and RIM is making good of the time by visiting developers and seeding them with devices. Hopefully we’ll see some innovative apps by the time the first smartphones launch. Check out the two videos below.

BlackBerry Jam World Tour Now Open for Montreal

Comments

We were told that the BlackBerry Jam World Tour is only constrained by the number of BlackBerry Dev Alpha devices that RIM can manufacture. One of the reasons the manufacturing process isn’t up to speed is because there’s issues with some parts having an end-of-life and thus creating a bottleneck. It seems RIM has freed up more Alpha devices or they’ve just figured out a way to squeeze another city in the tour because Montreal is now an available as a city. You can’t currently register for the Montreal Jam session on July 11th, but surely you will be able to soon.

Developers: You Should Attend the BlackBerry 10 Jam at BlackBerry World in Orlando, May 1st

Comment

BlackBerry World is going to be an awesome conference this year. Not only is RIM hosting its standard BlackBerry conference, but the company will have a developer-conference-within-a-conference called BlackBerry 10 Jam. According to RIM, the BlackBerry 10 Jam “will be dedicated to developers and is a unique opportunity for developers to connect with BlackBerry platform experts and learn more about the benefits and business opportunities of the BlackBerry platform. The show will give developers insight on building applications in anticipation of the launch of the new BlackBerry 10 OS later this year.” What kind of insight will they provide? Well the schedule has a “Hands-on” Lab Session so hopefully devices!
