RotationLock

Accelerometers are fast becoming a standard in smartphones and with the Torch being a popular current device, there’s probably a lot of users out there looking to lock their screen and prevent it from rotating. There’s also some upcoming devices with accelerometers such as the Monaco and Torch 2.

S4BB let us know that their RotationLock app is free this month on App World so you better grab a copy now while it’s still free. The app lets you lock our screen in the position it currently is in. Ideal when you use your phone as navigator, write an email or watch a movie. Other features include:

BlackBerry Touchscreens and Full QWERTY Keyboards Are Going to Rule

Comments

There are a couple devices hitting the market this summer and possibly to be announced at BlackBerry World that will feature a full QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen. The Bold Touch will be the old Bold 9000 form factor with a touchscreen and what we’re seeing now looks like a Curve with a touchscreen. Regardless of what the haters are saying, these devices are going to be incredible. The trackpad is great for actions like selecting text quickly, but you can’t beat a finger swipe for navigating icons and using apps. It’s cool to see these tutorial videos because it confirms the hardware and tells us we’re that much closer to a launch date. We’re expecting these devices to get announced at BlackBerry World, because they’ll probably go on sale some time in the summer before the Developer Conference.

If both the Bold Touch and the Monaco hit the market at around the same time, which would you buy?

Also, we should have interviewed Lisa Perry for April Fool’s Day as she appears in every single official BlackBerry video and screenshot.

BlackBerry Monaco/Monza Pics Emerge

blackberry touch monaco

This is going to be an interesting year for BlackBerry devices. While there are some really cool form factors on the way, you have to wonder what to make of BlackBerry 6.1 in light of a QNX OS coming in 2012. Will upgrading be just like BlackBerry 6 where we’ll see a handful of devices able to upgrade? Or will the QNX OS be more of a leap? Either way, The Monaco looks really cool but it’s the Bold Touch that takes the show in our opinion. The old school Bold form factor was the best.

Video of the BlackBerry Storm3 Aka the BlackBerry Monaco

The BlackBerry Storm3 looks pretty awesome, in fact, it looks like what the first and second Storm devices should have been. It looks like RIM has canceled SurePress too, which is great because a touchscreen device doesn’t really need it.

The BlackBerry Monaco is going to be coming out on Verizon, and considering the iPhone 4 is now out on Verizon, RIM has some incredible competition for touchscreen customers. Many previous BlackBerry owners will move to the Storm3 because they may want to keep BBM or some of their favorite BlackBerry apps, but RIM needs to work on the value prop for the Storm3 versus the iPhone 4. Specs after the jump.
