“I own the 8310 model BlackBerry… I received an email about upgrading my system from 4.2 to 4.5… Is there a way I can do that from my phone itself?”
The simple answer is, Hopefully in the future! Within the newer OS’s (4.5 and above) there is a wireless update item under Options, but this particular feature has yet to be enabled by any carrier. RIM has implemented the ability but it hasn’t been taken advantage of yet. The only option available right now is to update using you cable and supported OS download. But good things are in store for the future option of updating your Blackberry wirelessly.
Thanks for the question Cast TROY.

Last night Giancarlo posted a picture of his BlackBerry Storm running OS 184.108.40.206 and thanks to BerryReview we’ve got the download link.
Normal procedure would allow users to hit up the BlackBerry downloads page to get the installer and upgrade. Non-Bell customers in the past could do this as well, simply by deleting the vendor.xml file. This time though, no installer was posted, which makes things a bit more difficult. The download is available only via the Desktop Manager, which will make things difficult for anyone not with Bell.
RIM, along with United Arab Emirates carrier Etisalat, have launched the BlackBerry Storm 9500 in the UAE. Along with this news, comes a download for OS version 220.127.116.11. This is an official release so feel free to download and give it a shot.
