Canada has a new mobile provider and similar to WIND Mobile, Videotron uses AWS spectrum to offer 3G. The new mobile provider is selling the Bold 9700 and the Pearl 3G, along with a host of Android devices. The network is restricted to Quebec, so this post should probably be written in French, mais combien d’vouz parlez Francais? The good news is that if you’re roaming around Canada, you should get service in 95% of the country.
More information available from their press release.

The newest Canadian carrier, WIND Mobile, may be getting the Pearl 3G 9100 in stock in a couple of days. The Pearl 3G might be sold for $300 with a $20 rebate. Considering the Bold 9700 is sold for $430 after a $20 rebate, this seems like a pretty good deal. The 9100 and the 9700 share a lot of the same internal specs, except the 9700 has a bigger screen and the 9100 supports the WiFi ‘n’ spectrum. We’ll soon see if these rumors are true.

How lame is this? A leaked document shows that BlackBerry 6 won’t be available for Bell OS 6 ready devices until 2011. Users are eagerly awaiting the Bold 9700, BlackBerry Pearl 3G and the Curve 3G from Bell to upgrade with BlackBerry 6 and it looks like they’re going to have to wait until hell freezes over to get the update. Other than the Torch, which should launch early October, it’s not clear when these BlackBerry 6-ready devices are expected to launch, but 2011 seems a long ways away. Too bad, so sad, your dad.

We have talked a lot about RIM’s presence in Indonesia and the success of BlackBerry in Southeast Asia. The powerful and professional BlackBerry brand goes a long way when selling young Indonesians on the smartphone. Also, in Southeast Asia, smartphones are an effective means of getting Internet connectivity where land lines are difficult to implement.
Today RIM announced the BlackBerry Pearl 3G launch in Indonesia. There doesn’t seem to be any mention of price or carrier availability, but these announcements should be coming shortly.
Until then, read our review of the BlackBerry Pearl 3G.
