BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220

In our second BlackBerry launch post of the day, we jet from the United Kingdom to the Kingdom of Norway. Coming straight out of Oslo, Trigcom and RIM have officially announced the launch of the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220.

“Trigom is pleased to offer the BlackBerry Pearl Flip in Norway, so all devoted clamshell users can benefit from the powerful BlackBerry smartphone experience that combines phone, email and messaging, multimedia and web access with the support of thousands of other mobile applications,” says Rachael Babcock, CTO at Trigcom.

Trigcom is selling the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 for what looks to be 5,198 krones (Norwegian readers please help me out with this) on a 12 month contract. You can find full BlackBerry 8220 device specs after the jump and purchasing info at the link below.

GPS now unlock for Verizon BlackBerry 8130 and 8330 (BlackBerry Bytes)

A bunch of people have sent us emails that Verizon has now unlocked the GPS functionality for the BlackBerry 8130 and 8330. This will allow Verizon subscribers to finally use BlackBerry Maps (by selecting the ‘internal GPS’ option in your settings)! However, Google Maps will not work as Verizon deems it a ‘security risk’.

You’re going to need OS 4.5 to experience GPS freedom on your Verizon BlackBerry. Thankfully, we have all the information you need to upgrade to OS 4.5 at the links below.

BlackBerry OS 4.5 now available from BlackBerry.com/Upgrades. No, seriously.

BlackBerry Curve the most popular U.S. handset in October?

Comments

The news on BlackBerry Cool has been a little glum today, so this item should be a welcome – and surprising – pick me up. AvianResearch has published a list ranking the 10 most popular handsets in the United States for the month of October. AvianResearch derives its ranking from the responses of 100 service representatives and store managers at retail stores of the four major U.S. wireless carriers. Which handset was at the top of the list? The BlackBerry Curve.

According to AvianResearch, the BlackBerry Curve has topped the list from May through October. In addition, the BlackBerry Pearl, which placed sixth during the month of October, was number one in April. With results like this, things can’t be all bad for RIM. You can see the entire list after the jump.

The Source offers Pearl 8220, Curve 8310 for $0, BlackBerry Bold for $99 (‘Cool Deals)

Comments

I don’t know if this is in hope of invigorating slow holiday sales due to a stagnant economy, or if certain BlackBerrys aren’t selling so well, but the important part is that they’re cheap.

The Source by Circuit City currently has a Friends & Family promotion, which offers the BlackBerry Pearl 8220 and BlackBerry Curve 8310 for $0 with a 3-year contract and minimum $35 plan. In addition the BlackBerry Bold is being sold for $99 on a 3-year contract with a $45 minimum plan. Remember, this is the device that was being sold for $399 a few short months ago.

Nothing much else to say here, other than that it doesn’t pay to be an early adopter. Get ‘em while they’re cheap!
