One of the challenges facing users on the PlayBook is discovering and downloading open source apps and keeping track of the latest versions. There’s some really cool open source software available for the PlayBook, and guys like OSBBx are keeping us updated with the latest tools and software. The latest OSBBx project, App Centre, is a storefront that allows users to download the latest version of open source and free applications directly to the BlackBerry PlayBook or PC.

BlackBerry PlayBook Loads Apps 30% Faster Than Apple iPad 2 [Video]

The developer of Pop Corny recently posted a video demonstrating the time it takes to launch his application on the iPad 2 versus the PlayBook. The results show the PlayBook launches the app 30% faster than the iPad 2. While this doesn’t make a difference in-game, it’s a good thing for developers to know that users are getting their apps opened faster and jumping into the action. According to the developer, “You know [RIM has] done something right when it allows a developer that had never even used the platform, come in and port his game in 2-3 days. But that, coupled with the fact that the game actually runs better than it does on the platform that is was originally written for, makes for something really impressive.”

RIM has released the latest version of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and this latest piece of hardware comes with a radio that supports LTE and HSPA+ networks. Other than the radio connectivity, there’s really not much separating this PlayBook from its predecessor. Therefore, the best way to approach this review is a discussion around the decisions to make a radio-enabled PlayBook, as well as some of the advantages and use-cases around why you may want a 4G LTE PlayBook.

Puzkend Puzzle Game for Playbook Available in BlackBerry App World

Puzkend is a puzzle game where the goal is to clear the game board by matching similar items into strings of three or more. The matched items will disappear. To succeed, you need to to anticipate the effects of your moves. As matched items are removed, the remaining items will fall and roll down. There’s no time limit and no need to worry about making mistakes, as you can always go back as many moves you like.

We recently came across a pretty interesting “Sales Battle Card” that RIM is giving its sales team. The card shows the major differences between the tablets and it definitely does a good job of showing the advantages that the PlayBook 4G LTE has over its competitors. There’s also some facts on the card that are fudged in a way that’s not owning up to the PlayBook’s disadvantages. But the glass should always be half full right? BlackBerry PlayBook Experience Center Coming to New York City July 10th

RIM will be hosting a BlackBerry PlayBook Experienec Center in New York City from July 10th to July 23rd. Each day, the Experience Center will feature a different topic, such as Experience Health & Fitness, and attendees can get to know the PlayBook better with regards to that topic. The whole event is geared towards raising awareness about the PlayBook and giving New Yorkers a hands-on experience with the tablet. The Experience Center will be located at 75 9th Avenue (at the corner of 15th Street and 10th Avenue).
