Video of the BlackBerry Storm3 Aka the BlackBerry Monaco

The BlackBerry Storm3 looks pretty awesome, in fact, it looks like what the first and second Storm devices should have been. It looks like RIM has canceled SurePress too, which is great because a touchscreen device doesn’t really need it.

The BlackBerry Monaco is going to be coming out on Verizon, and considering the iPhone 4 is now out on Verizon, RIM has some incredible competition for touchscreen customers. Many previous BlackBerry owners will move to the Storm3 because they may want to keep BBM or some of their favorite BlackBerry apps, but RIM needs to work on the value prop for the Storm3 versus the iPhone 4. Specs after the jump.

Details of the Storm3 are popping up all over the place and it looks like it’s going to come late 2011. Yesterday, we heard rumors circulating that the device was heading to production, and 3D renders have recently popped up that look just like the first images we saw of the device. All of this seems to confirm that the device is definitely coming in 2011. The specs for the device are rumored as follows:

BlackBerry Cool Roundup for the Week of June 28th

It’s a bit of a slow week on BlackBerryCool due to the Canada Day and Independence Day long weekends but we have some cool apps and news nonetheless. From a news perspective, RIM soft announced a new feature to deal with corporate liable and employee liable devices. The soft announcement was incredibly vague and is likely hinting towards some BES feature that they weren’t ready to fully announce, but wanted to give everyone a heads up that they are on the case. Some other random rumors have hit the wire as well, including some specs about the upcoming LTE BlackBerry Storm3 and Facebook for BlackBerry 2.0 including Facebook Chat.

Now that your holiday is over, be sure to hit the jump and catch up on everything you missed!

First Images of the BlackBerry Storm3 Slider

BBleaks got the first images of the upcoming BlackBerry Slider, and while it’s not confirmed legitimate, it seems to have all the branding and makings of a BlackBerry. From the blurry images, we can see that the device has a trackpad, but we can’t confirm the touchscreen element but BBleaks seems pretty sure of it. This definitely looks like the device we heard about earlier from BGR, with the following specs:

  • It’s a portrait-oriented slider. While most people assume a device with slideout keyboard would end up being something like HTC’s devices, we’ve been told this particular handset is more like the Palm Pre in terms of layout.
  • The phone will run BlackBerry OS 6.0
  • The rumored device will 100% support Wi-Fi 802.11n
  • The resolution unfortunately has not improved, it is still 360×480.
  • No word on if this will have a touch screen, but we’d assume so, and our source alluded to this possibly being what the rumored BlackBerry Magnum/Dakota evolved into. Not saying there won’t be a Bold-like device with touchscreen, optical trackpad, and physical keyboard, but this might be released first.
  • If it does have a touch screen, this could in fact be the mythical BlackBerry Storm slider — picture a Storm 9520 with a slide up Bold-esque keyboard.
  • The phone will not be a Verizon exclusive — it’s supposed to be a GSM/HSPA device.

What are your thoughts on a BlackBerry Storm slider? Is it something you’ve been waiting for, or is the hardware design turning you off?
