The Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 (with and without a camera) has been given an End of Life and will be receiving “limited shipments from the vendor”. This is a little surprising as the device is only about a year old. Regardless of what RIM marketing says, the BlackBerry Bold 9650 is the updated Tour and it looks like Verizon doesn’t want the first Tour around anymore. It’s really a shame that the original Tour wasn’t launched with a trackpad and WiFi because it would have probably had a longer life cycle.

AAA have launched a couple of new services that are relevant to BlackBerry users including a revamped mobile site and a GPS service for automatic location detection called FindMe for Sprint customers. From the new mobile site, aaa.mobi, you can view AAA TourBook guide information, find the locations of AAA Approved Auto Repair facilities, Show Your Card and Save retailers and AAA branches offices as well as get driving directions with routing maps.
All newer BlackBerry models with GPS are compatible with the AAA FindMe GPS service. There is no application to download and all you have to do is register your phone number and AAA member number in advance at AAA.com/AAAFindMe. When you place a call for roadside assistance, your GPS location is sent directly to AAA.

Initially, Verizon’s Tour 9630 users were quicker to adopt OS 5.0 than Storm users. One month after the official release of OS 5, 71.1% of users upgraded to the new operating system. The Storm 9530 in comparison, saw only 61.4% after the first month, and took a full three months to get past the 70% mark.
The higher rate for the first month may be due to pent up demand after Verizon and RIM took their sweet time releasing this. Although, the early release of OS 5 was more productive for the 9530 which has since climbed to 81.4% adoption.
These statistics come from the time of download of the popular free game Pixelated. Given that this game has been available for both devices for a while now, it is doubtful that there is any early adopter effect distorting these numbers.
There is another OS 5 adoption analysis from back in February available here.
