The news of RIM promoting its COO Thorsten Heins to the position of CEO seems like its a good move from a shareholder perspective, but we won’t know its affect on the company for some time. Shareholders have been demanding a change in leadership for some time now, and if the Co-CEOs stepping down will instill more confidence in the company, then it had to happen sooner rather than later. We’re going to hold off on any judgements about Heins and his ability to lead until he’s had some time to get comfortable in the role. My App Makr is a service you may have noticed if you’ve recently taken a look at the “Newest Apps” section recently. The company provides a web service where you create a smartphone app for your personal brand and then deploy it to the app stores for others to download. It’s a free service and while it’s geared towards minor celebrities and web personalities, it would surely work for things like real-estate. We have seen many realtors submit a branded app to App World.

Paw Print Games is a gaming studio that has games for Android, iOS, WebOS and now BlackBerry. Since the PlayBook supports Unity, Marmalade, and a C/C++ Native SDK, we’ve been seeing many game studios, big and small, head to the PlayBook. The studio has seen success on other platforms and now is making a push onto the BlackBerry platform with a few of its award-winning games.

Jon Wong took the time to walk us through OS 2.0 on the PlayBook. We also took a look at some of the apps that make the PlayBook a “professional tablet” such as Citrix. It’s interesting to see how RIM has integrated social into the platform and it brings RIM back to its core messaging strengths. We also took a look at some of the Bridge improvements, such as the ability to now use your smartphone as a remote. This comes in handy for those who have their PlayBook hooked up to a TV and it’s out of reach. The remote event allows for gestures. Video after the jump.
