Zagg is at CES 2012 showing off their new Universal Keyboards that work with any Bluetooth-enabled devices including the BlackBerry PlayBook. One of the downsides is that the media keys won’t function on the PlayBook because they are for iOS and Android only. Too bad.

I was recently sent a Bluetooth Keyboard for the PlayBook by The Next Success and TotallyTablet. A Bluetooth keyboard is coming officially from RIM, and it’s great to see Next Success bring one to market this fast. I’ve used the keyboard for over a week and this review breaks down whether it’s a good investment.

Mike sent us his video walkthrough of the Allerta InPulse watch which looks pretty decent. The device alerts you of incoming emails, SMS and phone calls. You can also view a history of message notifications to check to see what you missed. The watch seems like it would be really handy for anyone who doesn’t keep their BlackBerry on them in a readily accessible manner. For example, girls who keep their BlackBerry in their purse, could have this watch and not have to dig around in their purse each time they get an alert. If you’re at a conference, you could keep your phone in your laptop bag and only take it out when the watch alerts you of an important call or message. Check out the video and let us know what you think.
Pre-order the InPulse from their site.
Mike sent us Part 2 of his InPulse Smartwatch video. Check it out after the jump.

This year at CTIA there is a lot of buzz about cell phone radiation and limiting your exposure it. Fish Phonics is coming to market with a slew of new Bluetooth wristbands and neckbands. One of them, Earzee, is a wristband with a nub that comes out and wraps around your fingers, allowing you to limit the distance to your phone. The product looks cool but it’s sort of odd to have a Bluetooth product that isn’t hands-free. Check out their promo video and look out for their products which should be hitting the market in 2011.

Bluetooth have published a press release saying they are “ready to roll” with Bluetooth 4.0, and it is expected to launch by the end of Q2. Bluetooth 4.0 will feature a low energy mode, which is expected to make some big waves in m-health, sports and fitness, security and home entertainment scenarios where button-cell battery devices proliferate.
Bluetooth 4.0 is a combination of three specifications: classic Bluetooth technology, Bluetooth low energy technology, and Bluetooth high speed technology. These three specifications can be combined or used separately depending on the device’s needs. Another awesome update is that while current Bluetooth has a range of around 30 feet, Bluetooth 4.0 will be able to be optimized for a range of 200 feet and more.
It should be interesting to see what implications this will have for BlackBerry and apps, particularly with this new range. Anything really cool with Bluetooth has always been a little impeded by its short range, and I think we’re going to see some interesting networked apps. Even though Bluetooth 4.0 will be launching end of Q2, it will obviously take some time after that before we see it on BlackBerry. Perhaps we’ll see it on all OS 6 devices.
