BlackBerry Curve coming to Carphone Warehouse December 20th

With all the BlackBerry Storm launch news overtaking Canada, BlackBerry Cool has sadly neglected BlackBerry launches in the rest of the world. No longer! Expect this to be the first of many launch posts.

Carphone Warehouse and RIM announced that the BlackBerry Curve 8900 will go on sale on December 20th in UK stores nationwide and on their website, www.carphonewarehouse.com.

Ross Yealland, Head of New Propositions at The Carphone Warehouse said “The new BlackBerry Curve 8900 is destined to become a stylish must have phone. We predict both new and existing customers will be fighting to get their hands on one from launch.”

Our UK friends will be able to get the BlackBerry Curve 8900 for free on an 18 month contract and £35.00 line rental. Sounds like a great price for the next-gen Curve.

Handango and Carphone Warehouse team up

HandangoThe Carphone Warehouse, a giant phone retailer in the UK, is now working with top software reseller, Handango. The software that Carphone Warehouse will be selling covers some of the most popular items out there these days, including Empower, Shape’s IM+, and a theme fit for any pink Pearl out there. Digital distribution is usually seen as a threat to the old-school brick-and-mortar stores, but it’s pretty interesting to see a web-based business make the jump backwards. Whether or not something like this flies will depend a lot on delivery. If you’re e-mailed a list of activation codes and download links, you might as well just buy the software off the site, but if it all came loaded on the device and ready to rock, it would make for a very unique way to buy your BlackBerry.

Carphone Warehouse gets navigation software, launches on 8310

8310 with NavigatorEurope’s biggest phone retailer is now bundling navigation software with their BlackBerry 8310s, hosted by Telmap. No doubt the branded app will find its way onto other GPS-enabled handsets on The Carphone Warehouse’s catalogue, both BlackBerry and otherwise. If you’re interested, you can nab one over here.
