App World Gets Website Redesign with 3.0 Approaching

Comments

app world redesign

App World 3.0 is about to go live and it looks like RIM has updated the desktop App World site. App World 3.0 doesn’t seem to have anything all that new from the consumer side, but does help developers with larger image submissions (for PlayBook), as well as other description changes in the vendor portal. The desktop redesign is really awesome though and has a more “zen” feel to it. As you can see from the screenshot, or heading there yourself, the site has a featured carousel as well as smaller carousels with the Top Free, Top Paid and Newest items. Perhaps the homescreen of the app version of App World should be designed this way too.

RIM Confirms BlackBerry App World Getting Desktop Commerce

app world

In an interview with Martyn Mallick, Sr. Director, Business Development and Strategic Alliances, we got confirmation that App World for desktop will be getting commerce. This isn’t necessarily big news because we’ve always assumed that this was part of App World’s roadmap, but it’s nice to get confirmation from RIM on the upcoming feature. The feature was also confirmed in an App World session here at DevCon, where we learned that the service will use your BlackBerry ID and will even be able to leverage carrier billing from the desktop. With this new feature, users will be able to buy and download apps and they won’t even need a data plan. All they’ll have to do is purchase and side-load.

How to delete sent emails on Blackberry and not your desktop

22 Comments

Its annoying to have all your sent items sitting on your device but it’s important to have them in case you need to review an old sent email. So, we need to delete the items on your device, but keep them on your desktop for future use. To do this requires a quick setup, and a routine task:

1. Go into your messages.
2. Click the Trackwheel and select Search.
3. Scroll down and change Show from Sent and Received to Sent Only.
4. Scroll down and change Type from All to Email.
5. Click the Trackwheel and select Save.
6. In the Title, give it a name. Recommended: Sent Only.
7. For a shortcut key, pick a letter. Recommended: “A”.
8. Click the trackwheel and click Save.
9. This will now search and pull up all of your sent items. To delete them all without impacting your desktop, highlight the top most date, click the trackwheel, and select Delete Prior.
10. Now, on a regular basis you simply:

* Go into messages.
* press Alt-A.
* view the sent only items.
* Click the trackwheel.
* Select Delete Prior. Done!
