Developers: Remember That Apps Are an International Business

Comments

We’ve written about Eric at Ebscer’s apps many times before and recently he published a talk he gave at BarCamp Rochester about apps being an international business. The talk provides a few details about how Ebscer’s apps are in more countries than McDonalds (not to say the business is bigger, but to give you an idea on the number of countries supported) and the cost of the service he used for translating ($0.05 per word). RIM Missing Social App Promotion Opportunity for BlackBerry Developers

Comments

RIM has done an incredible job embracing social media. The @blackberry Twitter account has over 1 million followers and there’s a network of blogs providing the community with relevant news, tips and updates. The social media team seems mostly focused on providing information that’s based around BlackBerry hardware, but it’s really missing an opportunity to promote developers and the people who are going to make this platform succeed.

It’s something I’ve come across many times submitting an app and since it’s BlackBerry Jam time in San Jose, it seems like a great opportunity to bring up a solution to this problem.

BlackBerry Jam Conference in San Jose is More Apps Less Games

Comments

We’re at BlackBerry Jam in San Jose, California and there’s something interesting about the session catalogue: a total lack of anything ScoreLoop related and very little about gaming. This is probably a conscious decision on the part of RIM as BlackBerry World was almost too much gaming and the company may have gotten some flack from app developers about it. It would have made sense for RIM to be a little more open about the fact that this is not a gaming related conference, and that the focus will be on utility-style apps.
