FileScout Updated with TextEditor Improvements and Bug Fixes

The guys at emacberry update so often it’s hard to keep up, and recently they’ve updated FileScout to version 1.7.5. The latest version includes improvements for the TextEditor and some bug fixes. FileScout is a great file manager, and it’s one of those apps that makes you wonder why it isn’t native on the BlackBerry.

New to 1.7.5:

  • TextEditor: ‘Save as…’ allows to specify the encoding for the output file (the default ‘Save’ function will always save the file in UTF-8 – so if you like to use a different encoding in your result you now can use ‘Save as…’ from the #Menu.)
  • TextEditor/Viewer Options: Now you can specify additional custom encodings. This allows you to load a file (in the FileScout integrated TextEditor/Viewer) with a device dependent encoding (like ‘EUC-JP’, ‘Shift-JIS’ or ‘ISO-2022-JP’).

FileScout Updated to Version with Image Viewer

FileScout, a great file manager that now comes with its own image viewer, allowing you to browser through all the images in a given directory. Storm users will also enjoy the ability to browser through pictures by touching the left or right side of the screen. The image viewing feature is also improved by the fact that FileScout caches theimages in a directory, but will only cache as much as your memory allows so as to not affect performance. The latest version also includes Bluetooth fixes, making this update an overall success.

Create Dial, Mail and Web Link Icons on Your Homescreen with Iconify

Iconify is a new app from emacberry, the developers of FileScout, that lets you create voice dial, mail, and web links with customizable icons for your BlackBerry homescreen. The app sits in the background on your device and adds a new menu option on your BlackBerry that allows you to create an icon. Each icon is a separate app on your device, and will show up in your downloads folder. I personally like Iconify as a replacement for my speed dialer, because it’s a nice visual. It’s also good as a replacement for launchers.
