Free BlackBerry themes with a minimalistic feel

These free themes are incredibly minimalistic which is exactly what is great about them. While many themes try and impress you with big graphics and fancy icons, sometimes it’s nice to not see anything at all.

PureLab are offering two, free minimalistic themes:

1) pure.system: a minimalistic and clean theme.

2) pure.system overdrive: an extended version of pure.system with hidden dock and highly customizable home screen.

To download your free apps, see the PureLab site.

Texts From Last Night – The funniest free app for BlackBerry

Comments

tfln

Texts From Last Night is a great site. There is something funny almost every day and it’s worth a daily check just to pick your spirits up a little. Most of them are NSFW, but now that we can get updates to our BlackBerry with their free app, it’s no longer an issue.

The app lets you view all the latest TFLN, and you can even search them by area code to see how degenerate your city is that day.

Free BlackBerry Bold SodaBerry theme with Bottom Dock and Today Plus

Comments

sodaberry-bb-bold

A new free theme called ‘SodaBerry’ is a Today Plus theme with a bottom dock. The theme looks really clean and it’s incredibly easy on the eyes.

Sadly, the theme is only available for the BlackBerry Bold. We’ll be sure to keep you informed if this becomes available for more devices.

The theme was developed by RedZapper, with the icons designed by Alistair Roberts. RedZapper have recently updated the theme with the following:

- Shadow around icons in application screen removed (see new screenshot below)
- Emails go into one inbox, SMS/MMS goes into another inbox. You may want to keep both the email and SMS/MMS icons on the home screen.
- Modded more icons. Default icon background added for non-modded icons.

Download SodaBerry OTA for free for your BlackBerry Bold.

MyCaption announces free upgrade – better UI and more functions

Comments

mycaption_screenshot

MyCaption is a voice to text service for BlackBerry that blends with your email, calendar, contacts, tasks and memos. The accuracy of the voice recognition technology is really impressive, even for long emails.

The company have just announced a upgrade for the product, available to all existing customers. New users can get a brief free trial too. Like previous versions, the new version 1.4.7.1 works with nearly all BlackBerry models running OS 4.2.1+, including the BlackBerry Curve, Storm, Bold, Pearl and 8800.

Here are some highlights:

  • For BlackBerry Storm users, a new UI with bigger buttons makes it easier to operate the voice recorder. You can hold the Storm and operate the recorder with two thumbs, in either portrait or landscape orientation.
  • Support for convenience key is now much more extensive. You can program it to select one of four options. You can compose a new email, or compose one of three PIM items — a task, memo or an appointment — without even looking at your BlackBerry. With a single click, you can record your voice. Another click, and you are done.
  • Support for secure HTTP and BlackBerry Enterprise Server is included. BES users have to simply set a “Use BES” flag to “Yes”.
  • Another helpful feature of this app is the option to “Review before Send”. After you dictate your email — up to 3 minutes long — you can review it, make corrections and changes, and then send it off. This gives you the peace of mind of knowing that your email will be delivered 100% the way you intended.

I’ve personally used this application for several articles on BlackBerry Cool, including to get transcripts of interviews. If you’re looking to do any significant amount of typing on your device, it’s best to start with this application, and get the lion’s share of the work done fast and efficiently.

MyCaption is available for $10 or on a free trial.

Save money on your voice plan with a simple free BlackBerry app

    Comments

    blackberrypearl_phone_berry_amethyst

Some carriers are really harsh when it comes to voice plans and will bill you an extra minute for going even a second over 60. With Fabian’s latest free app, you get a short vibration after every 55 seconds into each outgoing call so that you know when a new minute will start.

By using this app, you’ll know that you aren’t being charged for extra minutes. It’s an easy way to save on your voice plan.

Download MinuteSaver for free for your BlackBerry.

Free BlackBerry call reminder app works with calendar and messages

    Comments

    LaterDude

Recently, Fabian was on Twitter asking about what new BlackBerry application to make. I’m not sure if this is the product of that vote but if it was, it’s an incredibly fast turn around. His latest app is called LaterDude and the app allows you to set reminders to call someone back.

From your Call Log or from your Messages application (on some devices, both work, on others only one works) you select an entry, press Menu then ‘Remind me later!’ and now a selection pops up when you want to get notified again about calling back.

It creates a calendar entry at the selected time and date. Make sure that you set the following in the Calendar-Options:

    1. Open up the Calendar
    2. Click Menu then Options
    3. General Options
    4. Default Reminder
    5. Set it to 0 min.

Download LaterDude for free for your BlackBerry.
