Some of you may remember us mentioning Nintaii by Mobigloo back in October when we discussed the finalists for the BlackBerry Developer Challenge. ‘Nintai,’ a Japanese Kanji that means “patience” offers users a great gaming experience from start to finish. More recently, I also reviewed this app back in November, giving it a healthy and well deserved 4 out of 5. Well, Nintaii now comes equipped to handle the awesome power of the BlackBerry Storm, making use of the Storm’s accelerometer and huge screen. Sweet.

The new Xbox 360 application gives Zumobi users access to the latest 360 news, Xbox Live Marketplace updates, video and audio clips and even your friends’ gamer tag status. A new BlackBerry theme came out today for the Pearl, Curve and 8800-series which will tickle pink any nostalgic gamers out there. Every icon is an animated sprite from a certain game involving certain Italian plumbers stomping on certain turtles attempting to rescue a certain princess. While “Classic Video Game Theme” might be a thinly-veiled attempt to evade IP lawyers, it’s still a slick looking theme. As far as I’m concerned, it’s only a matter of time before Nintendo’s legal banhammer comes down on this one, so pick it up while you can!

If you’re still holding your breath for the new flip BlackBerry Pearl, it’s clear that Rogers is setting the stage for a launch real soon, now that the BlackBerry 8220 is listed on their game deck. The BlackBerry 8220 has been rumored to be out on Rogers sometime in mid-September, which would be backed up by this little slip-up. Whether or not the Kickstart will be subjected to a big push for gaming remains to be seen, but if that BlackBerry multiplayer platform comes to fruition, it wouldn’t be a surprise.

As a long-time gamer, and a fan of Sagat’s freakish tallness, I’m happy to tell you guys about Street Fighter II: Championship Edition for BlackBerry. All of the bosses are playable, including M. Bison, Vega, and Balrog. I’d be interested in seeing how the controls work, considering how much easier doing a quarter-circle turn would be on a trackball rather than D-pad. Not only is the BlackBerry Developers Conference the perfect venue for the $150 venture capital fund to see what developers are up to, but it’s also a great opportunity for devs to network and hone their skills. Those fine folks at Magmic Games are working on a mobile crossword game for the New York Times and need some testers to make sure 5 across and 23 down actually work out. Just shoot an email to nytxbeta@magmic.com, with the subject line “Application”. Be sure to include your name, e-mail address, BlackBerry model number, location, and crossword experience. Although they didn’t mention it, I’m sure you could squeeze ‘em for a free game or two for participating.

If you know poker, you’ve probably heard the name Phil Hellmuth before. Well, a mobile Texas Hold’em game with his name on it will be available from Concrete Software on July 24th. That’ll be some stiff competition with Bplay’s Texas Hold ‘Em King 3 currently rocking the BlackBerry poker scene, but hey, you never know. We got a chance to play around a bit with it, and it’s pretty solid, with three game types to chose from: table play, head-to-head and tournament. No word on pricing or carrier yet, but if you’re a poker shark with an itch to scratch, keep your eyes peeled.

Sounds awfully ambitious, but there are rumblings that the OS 4.6, which is coming out with the BlackBerry Javelin, will be packing a multiplayer gaming platform. You’d think pros like Magmic might be in on something like this, but we’ve heard nary a peep from our Ottawa neighbours. Bplay already has a separate multiplayer service they work through, so if anything, RIM’s developing something in-house. Cool idea, if nothing else.
OS 4.6.1, launching with the BlackBerry Javelin, will also be sporting some cell-tower recognition to provide some light location service, along with a safe mode to make software testing a little easier. Hey, speaking of the Javelin, we hear there’s still a BlackBerry 8900 out there, which could very well be the Javelin. Jibi also has it that the flip BlackBerry Kickstart has been rebranded as the 8220 and 8210, which both check out for our sources. It looks like the BlackBerry Bold is going to be in a class of its own for awhile…
