The videos featured tattoo artists, DJs and shop owners, all talking about how they use BBM in their daily lives and careers. The campaign has now spread to Asia, where we can get a glimpse of how BBM is used in other countries. Hit the jump and check out some cool videos of BBM being used in India and Indonesia.
The Indian Government withdrew the threat to ban BlackBerry services for 60 days after RIM sent a proposal to give security officials “lawful access” to encrypted data. The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has demanded real time access to encrypted emails and IM communications and said it will take the next 60 days to review the proposal from RIM.
India is sticking to its August 31st deadline for RIM to come up with a way for the government to get access to encrypted BlackBerry email. The deadline is fast approaching but there isn’t much RIM can do because as they have stated many times before: there is no master key to decrypt BlackBerry email. That would defeat the entire purpose of encryption.
The Indian government’s telecom department has suggested a workaround for accessing encrypted BlackBerry emails. The workaround involves getting unencrypted copies of emails from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server sent to an internet service provider’s monitoring system. Security agencies will be able to work with the ISP’s to obtain any information they desire from these corporate emails.
While BlackBerry corporate email is fully encrypted on a BES when moving between BlackBerrys, it remains unencrypted while it resides on the BES. “Feeding the email from the enterprise server to the ISP’s monitoring systems can, accordingly, help security agencies access the communication in pure text form,” DoT proposal said.
