I’ve been using the BlackBerry Z10 for a couple weeks now when people ask about what I don’t like about the device, I immediately talk about the “App Gap”. The fact that the platform doesn’t have Instagram, Skype, Netflix, Snapchat and other apps that people have come to love on the other platforms, is the most obvious downside to the device. The App Gap has got me thinking though, is this really a problem? After giving it some consideration, I’ve thought of 5 clear reasons why the App Gap is not as big of a deal as people will have you believe.

A couple months ago we wrote a post on BlackBerryCool about how Instagram posts looked terrible on a BlackBerry browser. It was a strange issue considering how easy it is to render a webpage to be viewed on a BlackBerry. Every website these days formats itself to be viewed on mobile, and the fact that Instagram was ignoring BlackBerry was really strange. It seems the problem has been completely fixed and Instagram looks really great on BlackBerry browsers.

We’ve known about the Facebook acquisition of Instagram for some time now and yesterday, the company acknoledged the acqusiiton on its corporate news section with a post titled “Welcoming Instagram to Facebook“. In the post, Facebook says, “We also can’t wait to work with the talented Instagram team to improve the mobile experience.” Now, we’ve talked before on the site how the Instagram experience on Facebook for iOS is beautiful and lacking on BlackBerry, but what about the simple fact that the service is basically incompatible with the BlackBerry Browser? Instagram seems to have a beef with BlackBerry that makes their service look terrible on BlackBerry Browsers, but maybe now with Facebook behind them, they might take the small amount of effort required to make their service compatible with BlackBerry Browsers.
