Rogers Wireless launched the BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone today in Canada. This device sports a 2.0 megapixel camera, external media keys, WiFi, stereo Bluetooth, and quad-band EDGE. It is the first BlackBerry released with the new optical trackpad. The new BlackBerry can be had for as little as $99.99 with a three-year voice and data plan, or $449.99 without a contract.

You have to hand it to AT&T for keeping their chin up and throwing a party even when the guest of honor can’t make it. AT&T’s NYC BlackBerry Bold launch party took place last night, and while the BlackBerry Bold was a little too fashionably late, Michael Phelps was there along with Madonna in video form. Oh yes, everyone in attendance received an IOU for a BlackBerry Bold.
Hmm, a launch event without the release of the launch device. Reminds us of that Rogers BlackBerry Pearl Flip event that happened a few weeks back. Is this the beginning of a trend?

BGR has RSVPed to the previously rumored launch party for the BlackBerry Curve on AT&T, happening in New York City on June 7th. We blew our meager travel budget on WES, so BBCool won’t be attending the so-dubbed “Rock the Curve” party, but we’d love to hear about any readers who will be getting in on the action.
