RIM to launch BlackBerry device with front-facing camera?

storm_front_facing_camera

When we posted the fairly successful article “BlackBerry features request,” one of the comments asked for a front-facing camera for video conferencing. Not only is a front-facing camera great for video conferencing, but it opens up a world of potential for apps.

Ever tried the YearBookYourself web app? It’s a ton of fun and with a front facing camera – you’ll be able to create your own on the device.

Video conferencing is not only great for consumers, but it’s great for business. While sending an email can open the discussion for a potential sale, video conferencing can show the client you’re giving them your undivided attention and you’re serious about the deal.

While the article from TinyComb doesn’t give any proof, or the name of the RIM executive, the “leak” is interesting from a discussion standpoint.

According to the post, the unnamed RIM executive was asked how RIM would respond to the iPhone having a front-facing camera. He allegedly said “we are fortunate to have our relationships with many different carriers, some of which can handle something like live video-conferencing.” He added, “video conferencing is something that could completely change the mobile landscape and it is something we have been thinking about and working on for quite some time. You will start seeing something early next year”.

Be sure to check out the BlackBerry Features Request article and leave your feedback.

BlackBerry OS 5.0 screenshots and impressions (read German?)

Comment

blackberry-storm-os-5_12

A German BlackBerry site posted some screenshots of OS 5.0.0.92 and the features available with the new OS.

When it comes to the loading process, it’s great to have the status bar in OS 5.0. Before, you would have to stare at the “white screen of death” for what seemed like half and hour before you device turned on. While I don’t believe OS 5.0 loads any faster, you can still check when the device will be finished loading.

One feature you will notice that is significantly faster, is the key locking system. Locking and unlocking the keys is much faster.

The new messenger client is going to be the focal point of the latest OS
. With avatar support, and a wide range of messenger features, RIM is going to change the way BlackBerry users communicate. I’m also looking forward to the use of barcodes in order to exchange info. It brings us another step closer to countries such as Japan, where QR codes make contact information fast and efficient.

BlackBerry Tour 9630 uncovered in Telus website

Comment

blackberry_tour_9630

You can’t hide from the Internet! A CB forums member went digging around the Telus site and by adjusting file link names, the user uncovered a picture of the BlackBerry Tour 9630. The size of the image suggests that the pic will be used for the devices page, where we’ll soon see specs and pricing associated with the device.

Rumor has it that the launch date is June 22nd, which jives with the launch of the U2 360 tour, sponsored by BlackBerry. The U2 360 tour kicks off June 30th.

Upcoming BlackBerry devices on AT&T leaked details

Comments

rim-onyx-att

There is a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming BlackBerry Onyx which is now unofficially confirmed on AT&T, along with the BlackBerry Onyx. The Onyx has been given hands-on review but the Magnum is still out there and has not been caught by the Internet yet.

So far, we know the BlackBerry Magnum is going to be an evolution in the BlackBerry Bold 9000 series. The device is rumored to have an HVGA touchscreen, QWERTY pad, quad-band GSM / GRS / EDGE, GPS, and WiFi.

Another unconfirmed device heading to AT&T includes the next generation Pearl which will pack 3G, 3.6 Mbps of HSDPA, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headset jack, trackball and SureType, and aGPS.

Finally, we’re expecting to see the BlackBerry Gemini roll out with a 512MHz processor, 256MB flash memory, 128MB RAM, Bluetooth, QVGA LCD, 2 megapixel sans flash, trackball, QWERTY keyboard, 3.5mm headset jack, a microSD slot, possibly GPS, and sadly, no 3G.

Which one would you like?

BlackBerry Storm 2 aka BlackBerry Odin details roundup

blackberry storm 2 aka BlackBerry Oden

Leaked pictures of the BlackBerry Storm 2, aka the BlackBerry Odin, have surfaced on CB, and have since been taken down. The device is looking really nice. With the flurry of complaints surrounding the released BlackBerry Storm, many users are worried the BlackBerry Storm 2 will be the phone they wished they’d originally purchased. This is very much going to be the case.

This leak is both bad and good news for RIM. The leak confirms a new BlackBerry Storm is on way, which will help generate a buzz until launch date, but it will also have a negative impact on the already launched BlackBerry Storm sales.

The upcoming BlackBerry Odin is rumored to feature GPS, WiFi and work on a GSM network. Rumors have claimed that the device offers a “new approach to text entry,” but from the pictures we aren’t seeing anything revolutionary.

BlackBerry Storm 9530 OS 4.7.0.132 leaked

Comments

New BlackBerry OS

I feel awkward writing about unofficial BlackBerry OS releases because the thought of someone’s BlackBerry exploding and them losing all their data is unnerving. If you’re going to try this OS update, remember to take all the necessary precautions and back that BlackBerry up.

Download OS 4.7.0.132 for the BlackBerry Storm 9530.
