BlackBerry Traffic is a mapping and navigation app for BlackBerry that allows users to plan travel routes and determine estimated time of arrival. The updated app, currently in beta measures real-time traffic conditions to provide users with the best route to take with more accurate estimated time of arrival calculations.

We mentioned Nogago back in 2009 and they have recently updated their app to version 2, with a few new features. Nogago Outdoor is a navigation app for BlackBerry that lets you track and measure time, distance and speed of your activities. Aion has updated their aiSPot GPS Toolset app with improved maps view, better integration with BlackBerry Maps, as well as Italian and Russian language support.

A 2010 BlackBerry Super Apps Challenge, Regional Selection, aiSPot GPS Toolset has a long feature set that makes it a powerful app for anyone in need of a good mapping app. One particularly cool feature of aiSpot is the map view which constantly aligns according to your movement. Overlayed on the map is a compass with bearing (azimuth to the destination point), and trip parameters like the course angle, distance covered, and more.

BlackBerry Maps has been extended to 34 new countries including Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, New Zealand, The Philippines and Taiwan. There are still a few regions such as North Africa, the Middle East and East Asia, and Western Latin America that are not covered but I’m sure we’ll see announcements about coverage in these areas soon enough.

TopoSports has a new app for BlackBerry that provides topographic maps for the USA. The app is geared towards outdoor sports enthusiasts and comes in handy for anyone interested in biking, hiking, geocaching etc. The maps provided by TopSports have been re-projected for WGS84 datum and are GPS accurate for all BlackBerrys. Features of this app include:

  • Download topo maps of any quad in US for offline usage: You can Download 1:24K scale maps of any quad in US(Alaska coming soon). The maps have been projected for WGS84 datum and are GPS accurate for all mobile devices. You can search for maps by feature name or select from 3500+ featured quads for popular destinations.
  • Seamless mosaicing of quads
  • Distance/Bearing tool
  • Create custom way points: Two modes for waypayoint creation are supported: Automatic using device GPS or via manual selection.
  • Geographic names layer for each quad.
