RIM Acquires Mobile Content and Cloud Services Provider NewBay

NewBay is an Ireland-based digital content services company that specializes in white-label solutions for mobile carriers. Some of their products include social networking tools, mobile video content delivery, mobile messaging, utilities, as well as tailor made mobile OSes for mobile carriers such as Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T. The company also has a significant presence in the cloud services space which is probably the cause of the acquisition. More after the jump.

mDialog Raises $5 Million Series A Led by BlackBerry Partners Fund

The BlackBerry Partners Fund is leading a $5 million Series A investment in Toronto startup mDialog. mDialog is building an ad platform that will service OTT platforms (streaming TV and media services such as Roku) as well as smartphones and tablets. The investment could also possibly point to some rumors we’ve heard in the past. More after the break.

TOMPlayer Media App Remembers Playlist and Song Positions

We recently heard from Emacberry founder, Matthias, who told us that while his BlackBerry media player was decent, it lacked some crucial functionality for his listening needs. In particular, when a playlist is loaded, one would expect that the app will remember the last position in the playlist, as well as the track. MyMusicCloud Offers Free Cloud-Based Music Streaming and Sync App

BlackBerry 6 media features

BlackBerry 6 is coming, at least that’s what the Twitter hashtag #BB6iscoming tells us. Recently, RIM showcased some of the media features in BlackBerry 6 including music album art discovery, photos, podcasting, YouTube integration and new sync services. It looks like BlackBerry 6 has a lot of the features requested by users and the navigation looks really tight.
