The PlayBook launch in NYC happened a little while ago and we have a few pictures of the event courtesy of @bberrygo. The coolest part of the event is clearly the fact that everyone got a free PlayBook, and this group will be the first to provide valuable feedback on what the tablet needs. More Details About the PlayBook from Meet the PlayBook Events

There are some interesting tidbits coming out of the Meet the PlayBook events, the first of which was held in NYC. Interestingly enough, it looks like earlier rumors about PlayBook models is false (the source site has even shut down), and the tablet will actually come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB sizes. Does this mean the pricing will change as well or will we get more memory at the previously rumored price? It also looks like RIM only has a handful of PlayBooks that can be demoed, and even those units still don’t have a browser. It looks like developers probably won’t be getting their PlayBooks until the device has launched in February, which makes sense considering the giveaway runs right up to the 1st of the month. Hit the jump for the list of new PlayBook details.

Another Hands-On Video from the Meet the BlackBerry PlayBook Event

Comments

The latest hands-on video of the BlackBerry PlayBook comes courtesy of the Meet the BlackBerry PlayBook developer sessions in New York City. We’re pretty sure the video is taken by Rob Kao of SmrtGuard, but the actual PlayBook handling is done by a RIM employee. The PlayBook software is definitely still a work in progress and it seems that RIM employees are pretty careful about how they demo the device. In this video, we get to see the camera booted up with both the front and back being used. Cool stuff!

Win a “Bold” Adventure to Africa, Costa Rica or Australia

Comments

There’s a cool contest going on right now with RIM and Verizon to promote the new BlackBerry Bold 9650. This weekend in NYC, contest administrators will be going around and taking video testimonials on a BlackBerry Bold 9650 from Verizon. Participants will answer the question, “How do you live your life bold?” The boldest video wins one of three bold adventures: an African safari, a diving trip to the Great Barrier Reef, or a Costa Rican rainforest trip. Be Bold has already been to Boston and gathered up some great bold testimonials. After NYC, they’ll be headed to Chicago, Atlanta and San Francisco.

Readers can also join the Live Bold. Be Bold. Facebook fan page for a chance to win the new BlackBerry Bold (the fan page will be giving away one smartphone per week). For more free giveaways, BlackBerry fans can visit the events in their cities.

Quick Walkthrough Video of App World 2.0

Comments

At a recent media event in New York we got a preview of App World 2.0 which is set to launch this summer. Some of the major improvements include carrier billing and new Top 25 sections. These sections, which also break out themes into their own Top 25 section, help to make navigation and app discovery a little easier. Barcodes are also a bigger feature with App World 2.0, allowing you to scan barcodes to download apps. The above video is a nice and quick walkthrough of what to expect in App World 2.0. Too bad they couldn’t show the purchase process though.
