Last week at BlackBerry World 2012, Foursquare launched NFC checkins for their city discovery app. This will allow checkins via Foursquare-configured NFC tags as well as share venue and tip data simply by tapping devices together. Here’s a video demo of how it all works.

RIM is introducing a new accessory, the BlackBerry Music Gateway, I’ll be having a closer look tonight at BlackBerry World. The new BlackBerry Music Gateway lets you wirelessly stream music to your home or car stereo from your BlackBerry, BlackBerry, PlayBook tablet or any Bluetooth enabled device that features the new A2DP and AVRCP protocols.

For residents, city parking seems like a tax grab as residents are already paying a lot in taxes and a $40 parking ticket is a slap in the face. For tourists, it’s going to hurt the visitor’s experience if they can’t find parking or end up with a ticket. With NFC you can now interact with many parking meters, including those in Ottawa, Canada.

BlackBerry 7 Smartphones Now Compatible With iCAM7000 for Secure Biometric Access

Here’s some cool futuristic stuff, BlackBerry 7 smartphones are now compatible with a product called iCAM7000 which looks like something you would use to protect access to a nuclear launch facility. The iCAM700 is part of the IrisAccess platform and from what we can tell is a biometric access system for highly secure facilities. It looks like the typical iCAM7000 requires a few pieces of biometric identity and the BlackBerry smartphone will be another means of identifying the person entering the facility. Cool stuff.
