After being run through rigorous testing over at the Beta Zone earlier this month, RIM’s first-party twitter client has been updated to version 2.0 and is expected to be on App World today.
This update sports a number of user interface tweaks mostly having to do with easier navigation. BlackBerry 6 users also get the added benefit of Twitter being added to universal search.
RIM plans to roll out this update over the course of the day. I’ll be checking App World anxiously awaiting my update.
Rogers has released the an official OS update for the Bold 9000 to OS 5.0.0.822. Here are some more details:

Verizon have officially launched OS 5.0.0.607 for the BlackBerry Storm2 9550 and it looks to be a good update overall, except if you’re someone who uses BlackBerry Messenger Groups. Many users are reporting that they can’t get the keyboard to appear with 5.0.0.607, which is a deal breaker for a lot of people. If you’re not a BBM Groups user, you can expect a faster browser, some extra free space, and some enhancements to the virtual keyboard (other than in Groups). In order to download this update OTA, you will have to be running official software.
Rogers have been pretty active in the social media space with a wide variety of Twitter accounts and now an official blog. It reminds me of a lot of what RIM are doing with their official blogs and Twitter accounts. It’s still not clear what these huge organizations hope to gain from using these social media initiatives, other than a few satisfied customers here and there. The fact is that these companies have an incredible reach, millions of individuals, and yet their Twitter accounts are really only reaching in the thousands. It’s not that I think the blogs and Twitter accounts are a bad idea, I just don’t know if it’s really going to get the PR response they’re hoping for. In any case, these companies have a lot of money and can afford to test any social media initiative. Hopefully these initiatives mean something for customers in the long run, and don’t serve to provide duplicate information that can be found elsewhere.
The official BlackBerry Twitter client was shipped out to a group of select testers, one of which is BlackBerry Cool. I thought I’d put together some initial thoughts on the app, with the understanding that it’s still in beta and and a work in progress.
