This Facebook theme is for the social networking and web 2.0 fans out there. Facebook is an awesome app for BlackBerry, mainly because it’s developed by RIM. Being developed by RIM, the app can use API’s that aren’t available to third party app developers. I’m expecting big things from future Facebook versions. This theme is a tribute to the great social network and useful BlackBerry app.
Currently, the theme is only available for the BlackBerry Curve sporting OS 4.5. Other versions are coming soon.
Buy the Facebook theme for the Blackberry Curve 4.5 OS only for $5.00.

When you see Nan Palmero punching out the air like a BlackBerry-enhanced Adonis, it can only mean one thing: OS 4.5 is available for your BlackBerry. Today it’s the BlackBerry Curve 8330 and BlackBerry Pearl 8130 on the Sprint network. We have a quick rundown of new features in OS 4.5, as well as download instructions for your BlackBerry enjoyment.
OS 4.5 Features and Improvements:
OTASL (Over The Air Software Loading) This enables all future versions of handheld software to be downloaded and installed wirelessly
MMS (Audio, pictures, text, or all three in the same message)
Docs to Go (device-side Word, Excel, and Powerpoint document editing capabilities)
Sounds pretty great, right? Download instructions for BIS and BES users are after the jump. We’ve also heard that OS 4.5 will be released for the BlackBerry 8830 in a few weeks, with an 8703(!) release coming at the end of Q1.
Thanks for the tip, Rob!

Good news for AT&T subscribers who want some of the new functionality found in the BlackBerry Bold without having to cough up the dough. AT&T has finally released OS 4.5.0.110 for the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 and 8120, the BlackBerry Curve 8320 and the BlackBerry 8820.
We’ve included the download link below (make sure you select the right BlackBerry!), as well as a link to our handy OS Upgrade How-To, so you know what to do when the download is complete. Enjoy!

How to Upgrade your BlackBerry OS

A bunch of people have sent us emails that Verizon has now unlocked the GPS functionality for the BlackBerry 8130 and 8330. This will allow Verizon subscribers to finally use BlackBerry Maps (by selecting the ‘internal GPS’ option in your settings)! However, Google Maps will not work as Verizon deems it a ’security risk’.
You’re going to need OS 4.5 to experience GPS freedom on your Verizon BlackBerry. Thankfully, we have all the information you need to upgrade to OS 4.5 at the links below.
BlackBerry OS 4.5 now available from BlackBerry.com/Upgrades. No, seriously.

For those of you that have been suffering through the indignity of OS 4.3 on your BlackBerry Curve and Pearl when your friends are rockin’ their BlackBerry Bolds, Pearl Flips and Storms, struggle no more! You’ve patiently waited for the “official version” of the OS and your wait is no more. Unlike what we believed in September, www.blackberry.com/upgrades, allows for an official OS 4.5 update. So far, we have confirmed this on Sprint and Verizon.
Let us know in the comments if your carrier is allowing an upgrade to 4.5 as well. Note that using this upgrade requires Internet Explorer. HTML email, geotagging photos and streaming video, here we come (don’t forget in-line spell check, ed.)!

It looks as though Canada is finally getting some OS 4.5 love this week. Shortly after posting about Rogers making OS 4.5 available for the BlackBerry Curve 8310/8320, Power User Nan Palmero ping’d me to let me know that Bell now has OS 4.5.0.77 available as well for the BlackBerry 8330. This is great news for CDMA BlackBerry Curve users who had previously been stuck in OS 4.3 limbo. We’re checking in on availability for other CDMA BlackBerrys, but for now hit the link below to download OS 4.5:
UPDATE: While OS 4.5 is available for the BlackBerry Pearl, there is no release yet for the BlackBerry 8830 WorldPhone. Sorry!

Earlier this week SanDisk announced the introduction of 16GB microSDHC (high capacity) cards, which makes me stare at the media-enabled BlackBerry Bold sitting beside me with both wonder and greed. However, those of you not fortunate enough to have an OS 4.6 BlackBerry may be wondering if your BlackBerry can support the new SDHC cards. Thankfully, our good friend Al Sacco over at CIO has already composed a useful chart depicting which BlackBerrys make the cut. We’ll spoil the ending for you, though: all BlackBerrys OS 4.5.0.81 and higher should be fine.

We were probably a little hasty a few weeks ago in promoting the launch of RIM’s new BlackBerry Upgrades website… probably because OS 4.5 still wasn’t available for most people. However, it’s just come to our attention that OS 4.5 download links for the BlackBerry Curve 8310 and 8320 are now available. Click the link below to download and spread the word!

UPDATE 2: This updating method will only work for non-BES BlackBerry users. Any BIS users out there, please post a comment and let us know if the update works, and which device you are using!
UPDATE: Looks like BlackBerry 8330 users are still out of luck. Sorry guys! (Thanks, Nan)
Oh sweet glorious day! There have been a variety of BlackBerry Nation members who have been suffering through news about new BlackBerrys and OS 5.0 features, when all they want is OS 4.5 to be released by their carrier. Wait no more: http://www.BlackBerry.com/Upgrades is now live, allowing you to upgrade your OS directly from RIM.
You’ll need to use Internet Explorer and click “UPGRADE NOW” to download the 25MB ActiveX control which is essentially a watered down version of Desktop Manager. At the end of the process you can enter in your email address to be notified of any future OS upgrades.
Note: If you had already installed another carrier’s version of OS 4.5, you’re going to have to downgrade to a lower OS version before installing the proper one (thanks Al).
