BlackBerry Instant Messaging Clients (Head-to-Head Review)

After encountering a half-zillion different IM clients the other week, we thought it might be prudent to throw them all in the ring together and see how they compare. It’s a beefy list, indeed… in terms of stand-alone clients, we have BlackBerry Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, and Google Talk. Among the multi-platform apps, we have Palringo, IM+, Mundu, Instango, JiveTalk, and WebMessenger.

AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ and Microsoft Live Messenger are also options if you’re packing a supported device.

BlackBerry version of Palringo goes public

Comments

Although the beta didn’t earn Palringo many friends, maybe the public launch will have fixed some of the issues with this promising BlackBerry IM client. Push-to-talk support is nothing to sneeze at, especially alongside picture and video sharing. ICQ, MSN, GTalk, AIM and all the other big names are supported, so if IMing is your bag, you can download Palringo here for your Pearl, Curve or 8800-series BlackBerry.

New BlackBerry IM service offers voice and picture sharing

JiveTalk currently rocks the multi-platform instant messaging on BlackBerry these days, but I just got wind of Palringo, which not only covers ICQ, AIM, Live Messenger, GTalk, Yahoo!, and a bunch of other popular IM services, but also lets you share voice notes and pictures easily. There’s also a community element to it, where you can join chat groups for mass communication. It’s a free OTA download, though still in beta, and there’s enterprise rollouts available if you’re in the market. Give it a shot, and let us know how it stacks up against your other mobile IM experiences.
