BlackBerry PlayBook Native SDK 2.0 Out of Beta And Now Available for Everyone

The latest version of the PlayBook SDK is out and this version includes new APIs for developers to make the best apps possible on PlayBook. The new APIs allow developers to collect device information such as battery, phone, storage and more to alert users on resources. Developers can also leverage an LED service API to allow for application notifications as well as a stereo sound API. These APIs aren’t all that impressive but a small step towards the Super Apps that we love on BlackBerry OS 7 being on BlackBerry 10. We’re eager to see what APIs RIM is working on with SDK 3.0.

As far as we can tell, the upcoming BlackBerry 10 smartphones will be a smaller version of the tablet OS. This means that all the awesome games that you’ve been seeing, as well as the beautiful user interfaces, unified inbox, social integration and more, will all be a part of the next-generation BlackBerrys. HTML5test.com is a great source for seeing how platforms are performing with their HTML5 implementations. What’s really amazing to see is that with PlayBook OS 2, RIM has blown the competition out the water and hit the number 1 spot for best performing implementation of HTML5 in the latest browser. The browser improvements is just one feature on many that we’ve been using in the latest version of the tablet OS and we can wait to see the next update. The tablet is really coming along and now is a great time to pick one up.

A Chinese blog has leaked screenshots of the upcoming PlayBook OS 2.0. The blog claims the leak comes from one “berry person” who on Sina, claims to be a “Southern District Sales Manager”.
