Polar Mobile Raises $6 Million in Funding For New MediaEverywhere Product Line


Polar Mobile has been doing an amazing job signing up new media companies onto its mobile platform. It seems whenever Polar launches something, it’s a hundred new apps across all platforms. The company has just announced a $6 million funding round led by Georgian Partners. The new funding joins more than $3 million invested to-date from private investors and is being used to expand globally and launch MediaEverywhere. There aren’t many details on MediaEverywhere, but it seems to be an HTML5-based content solution across all platforms including mobile and desktop.

Polar Mobile Unleashes 500 Apps for Metroland Media Group News Properties

We love Polar Mobile but they’re almost too good at what they do. The company has already passed over 150 apps created for BlackBerry and they’re still on a roll. Be prepared to see a huge influx of news apps in App World as the company has announced that it’s launching more than 500 applications for Metroland that will run across a range of platforms, including the iPad and iPhone, BlackBerry and PlayBook, as well as Android and Windows Phone 7. The deal will bring Metroland’s 104 local community newspapers to the smartphone and tablet realm in app form. Metroland will also take advantage of Polar’s technology for publications such as Sports Illustrated, Vogue and MacLean’s.

Ontario Premier Visits Polar Mobile Offices and Gets a Loaded Torch

With around 200 mobile app development companies based in and around Toronto, Polar Mobile is in the heart of a booming industry. The Ontario Premier, Dalton McGuinty, met with Polar Mobile and their CEO Kunal Gupta, to highlight the importance of creating jobs for the future. Whether or not you think the Premier is doing a good job, it was still funny to see Polar Mobile give him a BlackBerry Torch loaded with apps the company has developed such as The Hockey News, Maclean’s, NHLPA, TIME magazine, World Politics Review, GQ India and Shanghai Daily.

2010 Canadian New Media Awards Winners Include Hootsuite and Polar Mobile


While the 2010 Canadian New Media Awards may not be totally relevant to BlackBerry users, there are a couple Canadian companies you may recognize from the mobile space including Hootsuite and Polar Mobile. Hootsuite won the Digital Media Technology of the Year award which recognizes a technology that will most radically change the media landscape. Polar Mobile took home the Promising New Company of the Year award that recognizes a Canadian new media company that is “up and coming”. Hit the jump for the full list.

Non-Profit WWF-Canada Launches an App with Polar Mobile


WWF-Canada and Polar Mobile have launched an app using Polar Mobile’s SMART Platform. The app gives users updates users on the latest WWF-Canada news, from conservation successes, stories and videos to details on upcoming events in Canada and around the world.

For those who don’t know about the non-profit, the WWF aims to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.
