Roundup of PlayBook App Demos at CES 2011

Quake and the Media Player on the PlayBook

Our friends over at BerryReview have a few videos and pics of apps running on the PlayBook. It’s good to see apps like Poynt, Fantasy Football and Documents to Go, as well as some cool games like Tic Tac Toe and Quake. Even though the PlayBook is still in pre-production and isn’t ready for sale, it’s awesome that the device is solid enough to have such a huge presence at CES. Considering the rest of CES seems to be filled with a lot of Bluetooth junk and expensive TVs, it looks like RIM chose a great conference to overtake with PlayBook news. Hit the jump for more examples of PlayBook apps.

For those who downloaded Poynt when the Torch first launched, it worked but it wasn’t a build that was specifically designed for the device. The latest version runs very smoothly on the Torch and leverages some BlackBerry 6 features such as Universal Search. Some of the new features include:

  • Unified Search integration on 6.0
  • Context Menu enhancements on 6.0
  • Map Route with Google Maps
  • Rotten Tomatoes ratings
  • Added top and bottom shortcut keys “t” and “b” for lists not arranged by alphabet
  • Ability to turn weather on and off

  • Sort movies by alphabet or rating
  • Faster GPS on 5.0 and newer devices

Enterprise Build of Poynt Now Available for BES Users

Multiplied Media has announced an enterprise build of their location based service app Poynt for users on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES). Poynt has had several updates over the past year and now features the ability to connect users to local businesses, people, restaurants and movie theaters. Users can also discover movie trailers and show times, book dining reservations, compare local gas prices, view directions on a map, click-to-call a business or view a website.

For the latest BES version, MM has turned off update notifications to ensure BES users do not need to download the app directly when an update becomes available.

More information about Poynt for BES available here.
