Wave is an interesting theme from Elecite that gives your BlackBerry a radial UI design. The theme puts your apps in an easy to navigate menu, allowing you to touch a category and find apps quickly. Wave also comes with customizable slots as well as a weather slot. Of course, with BlackBerry 6, you can just start typing the name of the app and it appears instantly, but this theme is for someone looking for an entirely new UI.
Hedone has released a theme recently called Skeper which looks pretty cool. The theme is done up like a series of doodles on a notepad and is perfect for anyone looking to grab a back-to-school theme. The theme features some funny sketches and has a neat design that looks like yellow sticky notes are placed on top.
Aeron is the latest theme by Elecite and it features a cool dashboard-like homescreen. With Aeron, you can organize your apps, messages and calendar events in a clean and unique way. If you have a physical keyboard, Aeron supports hotkeys. Just hit the ALT key + a letter to launch an app or ALT + a number to launch a customizable icon. By using the spacebar, you can launch Quicklaunch by NikkiSoft if you have purchased the app.
The Cartan theme by Hedone Design is really cute. With its rolling, bright green hills, it’s very reminiscent of Mario Brothers and the SNES. This theme features multiple animated homescreens, unique icons and even a ringtone with all OS 5.0 devices.
The Cartan is available for: 8100, 8200, 8300, 8330, 8350, 8500, 8700, 8800, 8900, 9000, 9100, 9500, 9600, 9650 and 9700 series devices from 4.5 OS to 5.0 OS.
Three animated homescreens are available on 8900, 9000, 9500, 9600, 9650 and 9700 series. Other BlackBerrys include only one homescreen and one line of icons.
The Wall-E theme by Hedone is a premium theme that has plenty of wallpaper space and 6 customizable icons. The icons are hidden in an animated dock, and the homescreen gives you quick access to the options, connections manager and profiles. Just like many Hedone themes, Wall-E comes with a quick keys that let you access apps quickly from the keyboard. The only strange thing about this theme is why they chose to call it “Wall-E”, as it has absolutely no reference to the Pixar movie anywhere.
Catalyst have a pretty cool theme out called Pimp My Ride: Ferrari Edition. The theme lets the user change the body color, window tint, neon underglow lights and rims. There are 5 bodypaints available, 6 neon glows, 6 rims, 6 window tints and OS 5.0 transition effects. Pimp My Ride is also available as a hidden Today area version. It’s great to see theme developers expanding on the features that are available in a theme, and I’m hoping RIM realizes the potential of themes and builds on them even more.
