Bell partners with QuickPlay for Mobile TV services, NHL first offering

Bell has made two recent announcements which show that 2009 will be a big year for them in terms of multimedia content. Firstly, Bell announced yesterday that they have reached a deal with QuickPlay Media to power their live and on-demand services, including live TV and radio.

Wayne Purboo, president and CEO, QuickPlay Media said “QuickPlay is excited that Bell Mobility has chosen us to power its mobile TV services and to build on our long-standing relationship, which now enables Bell to provide subscribers with the option to watch both live and on-demand content on most video-enabled mobile devices. With our flexible mobile video solutions our customers are equipped to not only meet the demands of their customers today, but to accommodate changing mobile content demands and associated service requirements in the future.”

Bell’s first offering is an exciting one for Canadians: live NHL games on NHL Audio, in-game and post-game video highlights, live NHL games through NHL Centre Ice Mobile and real-time text message alerts. For $8/month, Bell subscribers get all this as well as NHL wallpapers, ringtones, Mobile Video Exclusives that has pictures from the past, Fantasy tips and Game of the Week insight.

XM launches radio on BlackBerry

XMHow does 20 commercial-free, 24-hour radio stations on your BlackBerry sound? Pretty good, especially for $7.99/month. QuickPlay and XM Radio have teamed up to bring comedy, country, talk, hip-hop and any other radio station you would want to hear to your BlackBerry. AT&T’s been supporting XM radio services for a little while, but the service is significantly opened up and expanded with this QuickPlay partnership. QuickPlay launches free VideoStreams

VideoStreamsQuickPlay, the guys who do cool streaming audio and video players for BlackBerry, have released a new free one called VideoStreams for the BlackBerry 8130. The new software, available from www.videoforblackberry.com on your mobile browser, depends on streaming video support, EVDO availability, being in North America and having a forgiving data plan. QuickPlay’s already been offering video streaming as a service to carriers, but it’s now that it’s been ironed out, a free version is here for all-comers. The current content is broken up into comedy, extreme sports, horoscopes and music videos, with more likely on the way. Give it a shot and let us know how it runs!
