BlackBerry App World community review system flaw

blackberry-app-world

I have been in the mobile space for some time and back when I used to follow mobile gaming really closely, companies would keep a close eye on their ratings on various forums. A rumor was circulating about a particular company that would have its QA team rate all their latest releases perfectly, while rating the competition poorly. Shortly afterwards, the cheating company would see its games rise to the top, while the competition would fall several points.

This is a perfect example of how community review systems are flawed and open to manipulation. Now, it’s not clear whether this sort of cheating is happening on App World right now, but it’s obviously possible.

One way to solve this problem, is to use a system similar to Yelp. Yelp is a community review system where, after a user has written many reviews, and proven that they are reliable, their reviews become more trusted. These users become part of the Yelp Elite Squad. In order to improve the App World review experience, we need an App World Elite. By doing this, we’ll know that reviews are trustworthy, and not just a marketing ploy to skew the reviews.

Simplify your BlackBerry experience with custom keys

quicklaunch

So if you’ve been looking for an application that will simplify your Blackberry experience, look no further. QuickLaunch by NikkiSoft allows you to launch applications, websites and compose messages along with other things from as little as 2 clicks. Configuring QuickLaunch is a breeze and is an application that every Blackberry owner shouldn’t go without. QuickLaunch supports 83XX, 8900, 9000 and 95XX devices with 4.5 OS or above.

Install was fast and simple and configuring was a fast and straight forward process. After installing I setup my left convenience key (through the Blackberry Screen/Keyboard options) to launch the app and when pressed it brought up the sidebar which defaults to the right side of the screen (but can be changed to the left). The QL Settings menu is simple and only has four configurable items; menu locations, font size, right-side convenience key action and left side convenience key. (The convenience keys will have priority over other mapped applications while the QuickLaunch menu is opened.) QuickLaunch allows you to set the convenience keys (left, right or both) to close QuickLaunch if an app is not launched using the application.

Solitaire Buddy Gold

Solitaire is probably the only game I’ve wanted to play consistently for the last 15 years, and chances are many of you – especially those that grew up without a video game console – feel the same way. If you’ve been looking for a classic game that will keep you entertained for any given period of time, then you may be interested in Solitaire Buddy Gold by Nickel Buddy, maker of the popular game Marble Trap (which is similar to one of my all-time favorite games, Nintaii). Solitaire Buddy Gold is the company’s premium solitaire gaming app, offering about thirteen different games altogether, under one app-roof. They even have the courtesy to throw in a free trial.

Sweet.

Nintaii v.1.6.1 for BlackBerry Storm Reviewed!

Some of you may remember us mentioning Nintaii by Mobigloo back in October when we discussed the finalists for the BlackBerry Developer Challenge. ‘Nintai,’ a Japanese Kanji that means “patience” offers users a great gaming experience from start to finish. More recently, I also reviewed this app back in November, giving it a healthy and well deserved 4 out of 5. Well, Nintaii now comes equipped to handle the awesome power of the BlackBerry Storm, making use of the Storm’s accelerometer and huge screen. Sweet.

AT&T BlackBerry Bold Unboxing

I’m not one for starting Internet flame wars because they get incredibly childish and I start to get severe heart palpitations when I open my inbox to find a thousand emails from a forum where said flame war began. That being said, I found a BlackBerry Bold review that I wanted to call everyone’s attention to and help the guy out. The review can be found here, and I’ll point out some quotes where the reviewer could be pointed to links that he may not know about. For example:

Tipping is a delicate art. If you’re looking for an application that will help ensure you don’t poorly tip that extremely foxy waiter or waitress of yours, I strongly suggest picking up EasyTip by Adorno. It’s easy to use, very responsive and – as far as a tip calculator goes – offers several features to help make settling up that much easier.
