BlackBerry has received a Letter of Intent to purchase from Fairfax Financial, a financial holding company based in Toronto, Ontario, which is engaged in property, casualty, and life insurance and reinsurance, investment management, and insurance claims management. If and when the purchase goes through, it should provide BlackBerry the ability to restructure and position itself better in the market, without having to fend off short term concerns of quarterly financials or shareholder demands.

BlackBerry 10 Missing Facebook Integration in Games Due to Webview Issue

If you’re developing a game for BlackBerry 10, you may be interested to know that, as far as our research can tell, there is no way to integrate native facebook APIs into your games on BlackBerry 10. The problem stems from the fact that integrating facebook natively, that is to use the official APIs from facebook, requires that you have a Webview that will let you pass an authentication token between the game and facebook. This feature doesn’t currently exist on BlackBerry 10, meaning any developer that relies heavily on facebook for friend invites is not supported. Inviting friends via facebook, for some games, is a crucial marketing tool that RIM should really be addressing ahead of launch.

RIM Releases Scoreloop SDK 1.0 for BlackBerry Native SDK for PlayBook OS With KAMI RETRO HD

That blog title sucks but you get the idea. RIM’s acquisition of Scoreloop, the mobile gaming achievement company, has led to a 1.0 release of the Scoreloop SDK for BlackBerry and users can check out what it’s like in KAMI RETRO HD by Paw Print Games. With the Scoreloop SDK, developers can add leaderboards, challenges, awards, and more. The hope is that all of this will save developers time, create a more fun gaming experience for BlackBerry users and make the platform more attractive all around.

Scoreloop Community Gaming SDK Now Available in Beta Zone

Back in early June, we learned that RIM had acquired Scoreloop. For those who don’t know about Scoreloop, or who have never played a Scoreloop-enabled game, the company provides a way to create community, incentives, highscores and more for games. If you’re a BlackBerry developer, you can now use the Scoreloop SDK beta for Native SDK v1.0 for BlackBerry PlayBook OS.
