Nimbuzz has recently been updated to version 1.3 with more ways to discover other Nimbuzz users. Nimbuzz is a free IM app that features quite a few clients such as AIM, Google Talk, MSN, Skype as well as Facebook. New features in 1.3 include:
Chat history – so you can continue your chats where you left off.
Facebook connect – no more disconnecting errors!
See which of your phone contacts are already using Nimbuzz and when they are online
Send free SMS text message invites to your phone contacts so they can join Nimbuzz
Rdio has announced a new social music service along with a BlackBerry app. For $9.99 per month, users can access seven million songs and listen as much as they’d like. The BlackBerry app lets you manage your entire collection, and lets sync as many songs as your phone will allow. The songs are downloaded to your device and therefore you can listen even when you’re not connected.
Skype for BlackBerry has launched on Verizon, being pushed to customers’ devices this morning. This official Skype client uses Verizon’s voice connection (and billing) to connect you to the Skype network. Even though it’s a hybrid, and not a full VOIP service, if your plan has the airtime minutes you can make free international Skype to Skype calls. Skype’s IM communications thankfully still go through as data.
Make and receive unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls to any Skype contact around the globe;
Send and receive unlimited instant messages with other Skype users;
Manage the Skype contact list directly from the mobile application; and
Call international phone numbers at competitive Skype calling rates.
To use Skype Mobile, you’ll need a data plan but you can save money in that Skype-to-Skype calls are not charged against your monthly minutes. The app will be available for the BlackBerry Storm 9530, Storm2 9550, Curve 8330, Curve 8530, 8830 World Edition, and Tour 9630.
Verizon have begun to push their Skype Mobile services on YouTube, and while the video doesn’t reveal anything new about the product, it’s good to see that things are moving forward. Verizon claims the call quality will be excellent, and messaging will be an integral part of the service. Hopefully Verizon haven’t locked Skype down from doing business with other carriers, as I know many other BlackBerry users in Canada and on other providers would love to get their hands on this service.
