Facebook for BlackBerry Should Be Built by Facebook Not RIM

Back in 2010 we posted an article called “Facebook for BlackBerry Not Refreshing – Worst App Ever?“. The article highlights some of the elements that make Facebook for BlackBerry such a bad app. After having brought this up countless times with some of the people at RIM, the real conclusion is that perhaps Facebook should never have been made by RIM.

Because the app is built by RIM, the company has to wait on Facebook releasing APIs that support critical features such as Event Management. Ideally, RIM wouldn’t have to wait on this and would be given source code under NDA, but this isn’t the case. Considering all the bad PR around RIM and the fact that the company is downsizing to buckle down for BlackBerry 10, it doesn’t look like the OS 5-7 version of Facebook for BlackBerry is going to get up to par with the iOS version any time soon.

The Foursquare Prank That You Should Play Right Now

Comments

The most annoying thing that people do with Foursquare is broadcast their boring errands on the service, and worse, publish them on Twitter. Nobody cares that you’re at Walmart right now! The only time you’re allowed to checkin on Foursquare is if a) you’re at a party and want your friends to see and come, b) it’s a special event or c) you’re doing it for the badge. Otherwise, stop telling everyone that you’re getting gas at Esso. My life is filled with enough boring minutiae and I don’t need yours too. Anyways, here’s a great prank to get back at everyone checking in to their boring lives.

Comments

One of the best things about third party Twitter apps is that the developers take the time to put in features that may not appeal to the masses, but appeal to a small section of users and power users. It’s what makes these apps much more fun than the mainstream first party apps. For example, with Blaq, you can now check out someone’s Klout score. Or with UberSocial, you can create circles of people you want to follow more closely. With the latest update to Blaq, power users on Twitter are sure to have a lot more fun with their PlayBook.

Soon You Will Discover All Your Apps Through Facebook

Comments

There has been a long-standing issue with app discovery and that it has been relegated to some very basic features such as carousels/lists and categories. There are so many more effective ways that a person can discover an app and word-of-mouth is one of them. The problem is that word-of-mouth is difficult to track as it’s offline, but a recent facebook announcement points to the fact that the company will be owning the space entirely.
