BlackBerry Onyx to come with a trackpad – new device strategy?

The BlackBerry Onyx has been spotted with a trackpad. Although the Tour 9630 does not have a trackpad, the BlackBerry Gemini 8520 does. This could mean that RIM is thinking of making all devices post 9630 come with a trackpad.

Is this the death of the trackball? I hope so. BlackBerry users have had to replace a ton of trackballs because they get dust/sand in them or they just simply wear out. This new strategy could mean longer lasting devices.

ColorLight v.2.2.0 for BlackBerry Reviewed!

As some of you may know, I recently reviewed EasyTip v.2.1.0 by Adorno – an app that many of our online store’s customers seem to love, but one that is received with mixed reviews by our readers nevertheless. ColorLight, another Adorno app does explicitly what its’ name implies: it changes the colour of your lights (your status LED and, if you’ve got a Pearl, your trackball). If you need to spice things up a little and there’s no Goofy Hat Friday or (my personal favorite) Overalls Wednesday in sight, or you simply need to differentiate your device from a large fleet of BlackBerry devices (let’s face it, a more likely reason), then ColorLight may be the app you’re looking for.

RIM to release clamshell flip phone codenamed Kickstart?

The BlackBerry KickstartThe Boy Genius Report has the first pictures of a new clamshell form factor BlackBerry, codename Kickstart. Up until now we had heard only the vaguest allusions to a clamshell phone from RIM, but the BGR’s picture gallery looks pretty legit. The phone uses a SureType keypad and sports both an internal and external LCD, as well as a trackball and camera, although camera specs weren’t mentioned. BGR says RIM will be releasing it before the end of the year. They also say they’ve known about it for a while, but were waiting on proof before they went public with the info. It certainly looks like they found it.

Bacon on BlackBerry: Ringtones, trackballs and Outlook (oh my!)

Jeff BaconIt’s been a long time since we’ve seen an update from Magmic‘s BlackBerry guru, Jeff Bacon, but that’s because he’s been hard at work this summer with Bacon family barbeques in his backyard plunging the depths of RIM’s inner sanctum looking for answers to your most pressing questions. So sit back and take a load off, as our BlackBerry expert regales you with stories of glowing trackballs and the dreaded ‘red X’. Oooh, spooky.
