Twitter 2.0 Launching Today on App World

After being run through rigorous testing over at the Beta Zone earlier this month, RIM’s first-party twitter client has been updated to version 2.0 and is expected to be on App World today.

This update sports a number of user interface tweaks mostly having to do with easier navigation. BlackBerry 6 users also get the added benefit of Twitter being added to universal search.

RIM plans to roll out this update over the course of the day. I’ll be checking App World anxiously awaiting my update.

Twitter for BlackBerry version 1.1 is rolling out today over the next 24 hours in App World and it comes with some graphical updates as well as more location-based features. The app is coming along nicely but just because it’s the official app doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of awesome third party options out there. There are plenty of users who appreciate new features and special functionality.

Twitter for BlackBerry is a great official Twitter app that gets a lot of use from the average BlackBerry user. Back at the Chirp conference, we learned a lot about how Twitter for BlackBerry is responsible for a very significant amount of daily tweets and signups. Canadian Government Now Able To Download Twitter and Facebook Apps

We have seen a dramatic increase over the past couple of years in government officials using social media to reach out to constituents. In Canada, MPs were not able to download the Twitter and Facebook applications, likely due to security concerns, but the House of Commons recently gave MPs and certain political staff the go-ahead to download Twitter and Facebook apps on government-issued BlackBerrys.
