Vlingo 2.0 Beta now open to everyone!

Comment

Vligo 2.0 for BlackBerry

A week ago we told you that Vlingo was running a closed beta for its Vlingo 2.0 voice-powered application. I’ve been told by our friends at Vlingo that the 2.0 beta is now open to all residents of the UK, US and Canada!

Because Vlingo is an application that learns and improves based upon user feedback, it’s really important that the BlackBerry Nation helps Vlingo out to make their application as useful as possible. This is especially true for UK BlackBerry users!

In addition to participating in the Vlingo 2.0 beta, you can also fill out a quick 10-15 minute survey. Doesn’t sound like your thing? What if I told you that everyone who completes the survey will be entered in a drawing to win an 8GB iPod touch or one of 3 $50 Amazon.com gift certificates! I thought that might peak your interest!

You can find everything you need to know about the Vlingo 2.0 open beta and survey after the jump. BlackBerry Nation, Assemble!

New BlackBerry IM service offers voice and picture sharing

PalringoJiveTalk currently rocks the multi-platform instant messaging on BlackBerry these days, but I just got wind of Palringo, which not only covers ICQ, AIM, Live Messenger, GTalk, Yahoo!, and a bunch of other popular IM services, but also lets you share voice notes and pictures easily. There’s also a community element to it, where you can join chat groups for mass communication. It’s a free OTA download, though still in beta, and there’s enterprise rollouts available if you’re in the market. Give it a shot, and let us know how it stacks up against your other mobile IM experiences.

Pinger offers speedy voice messages

Comments

PingerIf you find yourself using the Voice Notes app on your BlackBerry regularly, you should check out Pinger. By dialling into one of their many numbers worldwide, you can record voice messages and send them to individuals or groups. Unfortunately, only North American users are able to access Pinger’s web features, which include uploading your contacts by computer rather than through your mobile. Still, this is a pretty cool option for those looking to inject some personality into their messages, or just trying to avoid long-distance charges. If it sounds like something you’re interested in, they’ve got a free BlackBerry app to help you keep track of your Pinger messages and export contacts.

OS 4.3 features listed on RIM’s knowledgebase

BB LogoThe sharp-eyed Ronen has picked up on a knowledgebase article which outlines all the big changes in OS 4.3. For anyone not lucky enough to have picked up a new BlackBerry 8130, this should give you all the info you need.

Some of the big changes we’ve heard of before now, but here’s the round-up: enhanced SureType; wireless software updates; sending voice note by e-mail, PIN and IM; phone bass and treble adjustment; security options for locking long-distance and specific phone numbers; local search and route saving on BlackBerry Maps; video MMS support; streaming media; Media Player playlists; video recording; Bookmarks and History viewable on Browser launch; and finally, syncing address books and calendars with integrated e-mail, such as Yahoo! and (presumably) Gmail if you’re on BIS 2.4. Pretty awesome stuff!
