Review: SimulScribe

SimulScribeWe met the SimulScribe guys back at WES, and we’ve been toying around with their beta SimulSays software for awhile now. Considering that’s nigh-on eight months ago, we figured it’s time to do a review proper of what these guys have to offer. What SimulScribe essentially does is provide a new voice mailbox which processes and transcribes incoming messages, accessible via e-mail, web client, or their new SimulSays application for handhelds. All messages include the original audio file, so even if the transcription doesn’t quite go through, you’ll have good old-fashioned voice still available.

Christmas TreeYeah, Christmas is a ways off, but we don’t care – we love you guys way too much to hold out for three stinkin’ weeks. So, we’ve got two presents for ya: first up is 25% off of Ascendo DataVault, the BlackBerry password-keeping software of choice. Just type in the coupon code BBCOOL72 at checkout for your savings. For more info, check out our review of their most recent version. Next up is a free 30-day trial of the voicemail transcription service, SimulScribe, which we’ve got on the plate for review this week. So far it’s been impressive, and very much worth checking out. Currently in beta is SimulSays, which is a dedicated user interface for browsing through voicemails pumped through SimulScribe. That’s not everything, but we’ve got to save something for Christmas proper, don’t we?

GotVoice joins ISV Alliance

Comments

GotVoiceGotVoice announced today their membership in the BlackBerry Independent Software Vendor Alliance. The ISV Alliance is RIM’s way of getting all the great BlackBerry software developers under their wing, which means better BlackBerry apps for all. Man, if only Apple could show the same love, huh? GotVoice‘s service is integrated right into BlackBerry’s phone, and lets you do some handy things with voicemail.

“BlackBerry smartphone users can receive their carrier voicemail messages as an email with an MP3 attachment* or through GotVoice’s Visual Voicemail interface, which integrates within the BlackBerry phone application for easy management of voicemail*. GotVoice voicemail to text service is also now available for BlackBerry smartphone users, providing another option for customers seeking a converged messaging solution.”

SpinVox partners with Rogers for textified voicemail

Comments

SpinVoxIf you tuned in to our WES podcasts, you might remember the name SpinVox, purveyors of some fine voice-to-text software. Today, Rogers announced that SpinVox’s services would be available to subscribers, notably transcribing inbound voicemail into SMS messages. Part of the reason for Rogers’ support of SpinVox in particular is the multilingual support. Here in Ottawa, it’s bilingual central and easy to see how including French language support is a good business move.

SimulSaysVisual voicemail tycoons, SimulSays, has opened up SimulSays Beta for free download on your BlackBerry 8800, BlackBerry Pearl, BlackBerry 8300 and Windows Mobile handhelds. While this software is helpful for integrating voicemail with other BlackBerry services (e-mail, SMS and phone), the real product is in SimulScribe, which transcribes voicemail into text, opening up a whole slew of new functions. It’s a good product model they’ve got going here – try this for free, and if it’s doing good things for you, we’ve got a premium service available too.
