BlackBerry 10 Jam Videos From BlackBerry World 2012

RIM has posted their BlackBerry 10 Jam videos from BBW2012. I think giving developers nearly a full 2 years head start before launching on smartphones is a sound strategy for the platform to launch with a critical mass of apps.

Lots of BlackBerry 10 Jam videos after the jump.

Another Demo of Wikitude Augmented Reality App for BlackBerry

YouTube link

The BlackBerry Bold Touch was a pretty cool smartphone that we got our hands on back at BlackBerry World. It was nice how the light device fits into your pocket and you almost forget that it’s even there. With a built-in-compass (magnetometer) that supports location-based services and augmented reality, the device looks like it will be a decent stepping stone until the following year when the QNX smartphones come out. From the demo, we see the app’s ability to bring up information from a variety of sources including BBM and Foursquare, and bring them on a map or into the Augmented Reality view in the camera. It’s too bad that you can only see your current BBM contacts in the Augmented Reality view though. It would have been really cool to see other BBM contacts who at least also have Wikitude.

BBM With Augmented Reality is Going to Change How We Socialize

The BBM and Wikitude integration begins at 1:51.

Back at BlackBerry World, we saw the beginnings of Wikitude with BlackBerry Messenger integration and while we didn’t say it at the time, this is going to be a huge shift in how BBM is used. For those who don’t know, Wikitude is a company that specializes in augmented reality apps and services, and at BBWC they announced they will be preloaded on upcoming BlackBerry devices. At the conference, we were given a first look at BBM in Augmented Reality on the Bold Touch 9900, and the implications are huge for BBM and how people socialize on their mobile.
