Microsoft Office Document Editing Software for BlackBerry Reviewed

Comments

Since the release of the BlackBerry Presenter and the announcement of the iPad I’ve been thinking more about mobile word processing. Until now I was satisfied just using the notepad and email functions to export the note-taking I do on my BlackBerry, onto my desktop. When iPad’s iWork word processing got debuted, I started thinking about how great it would be to get advanced word-processing features on my text-nimble BlackBerry.

After some testing I found myself wondering why bold, italics, and basic text formatting aren’t part of the BlackBerry experience. I would love it if I could compose BBMs or emails in bold, italics, and strikethroughs.

Sneak peek at Documents to Go on BlackBerry

Comments

Documents to GoJosep recently posted some screenshots of the upcoming DataViz Documents to Go announced at Lotusphere. Documents to Go has been letting Palm, Windows Mobile and Symbian users edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files for awhile now – about time it comes to BlackBerry, eh? After this first step, maybe we can look forward to wireless syncing to desktop documents sometime soon. Still, we can look forward to Documents to Go being bundled in with OS 4.5 due mid-’08.

BeamBerry updated

Comments

BeamBerryThe document viewer BeamBerry got updated to version 2.0 over the weekend. BeamBerry is a cool little app that lets you view, print and store PDF, Word, PPT, XLS, RTF and ZIP files on your BlackBerry. Pretty handy stuff, there. The big changes in the new version?

“The key new feature introduced in this release is the ability for users to attach documents that they have stored on BeamDisk to new e-mails. The release also includes numerous improvements in the areas of performance, reliability and security, and contains fixes for several bugs discovered in previous versions (e.g. various problems with BeamPrint).”

It’s still in beta, but I reckon these guys will be going commercial pretty soon. Better get in on the free software while you can.
