Here’s a couple of great productivity apps for the BlackBerry Playbook from Will Robertson maker of Compose Email for Playbook. Temp Notes is a free app that gives you a spot to quickly store notes, useful for formatting text in between all sots of apps. Many Notes operates a lot like Stickies for Mac OS, allowing you to make and move several notes across a virtual cork board. Since the release of the BlackBerry Presenter and the announcement of the iPad I’ve been thinking more about mobile word processing. Until now I was satisfied just using the notepad and email functions to export the note-taking I do on my BlackBerry, onto my desktop. When iPad’s iWork word processing got debuted, I started thinking about how great it would be to get advanced word-processing features on my text-nimble BlackBerry.
After some testing I found myself wondering why bold, italics, and basic text formatting aren’t part of the BlackBerry experience. I would love it if I could compose BBMs or emails in bold, italics, and strikethroughs.
Here are some of the solutions I tried. Both had about as much ease of purchase and registration as any game or theme, which was surprising for such valuable mobile utilities.

DataViz specializes in document compatibility. Their Documents to Go software is being bundles with OS 4.5 when it’s released, and will allow BlackBerry users to edit Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other document types right from their phone. So far, Documents to Go is the only BlackBerry software they offer (well, plan on offering) so we’ll surely get to see it in action at WES.
Josep recently posted some screenshots of the upcoming DataViz Documents to Go announced at Lotusphere. Documents to Go has been letting Palm, Windows Mobile and Symbian users edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files for awhile now – about time it comes to BlackBerry, eh? After this first step, maybe we can look forward to wireless syncing to desktop documents sometime soon. Still, we can look forward to Documents to Go being bundled in with OS 4.5 due mid-’08.
