The BlackBerry Beta Zone is running an open beta for all members to try the latest versions of the first party instant messaging services. It seems all the betas are maintenance releases which means it’s not all that exciting to get involved.

Although we’re hearing rumors that BIS 3.1 and 3.2 are coming with Yahoo!, Gmail and Hotmail sync, it’s always good to see some screenshots that confirm. The most recent leaks show some Address Book sync with Yahoo! confirming that we’ll be seeing this in upcoming BIS versions.

Yahoo! have a mobile site that looks pretty decent on a BlackBerry and gives some good coverage of the 2010 Olympics. The app features live results, upcoming events, medal counts, and photos to news, expert commentary, and more. The Olympics is also integrated into Yahoo!’s mobile search results, which I still think are obsolete with Google around.
Head over to their mobile site at m.yahoo.com/olympics and see for yourself.

Nimbuzz for BlackBerry is now available from BlackBerry App World as well as the Nimbuzz site. The app features a ton of IM clients such as AIM, Google Talk, MSN, Skype as well as Facebook. Speaking of Skype, weren’t they supposed to launch a BlackBerry client 6 months ago? Even though you can’t use the VoIP calling feature of Skype with Nimbuzz, I still wanted to try it out. When I logged in with my Bold 9700, I got an error message saying the Skype service wasn’t working and they’re “looking into it.”
Nimbuzz is free to download and supports BlackBerrys running OS v4.6 or higher. Just go to Nimbuzz.com from your BlackBerry or hit up App World.
