YouMail Visual Voicemail has gone version 2.0 with new features that were heavily requested by users. YouMail 2.0 gives users a streamlined user interface, enhanced organization tools, improved transcription and faster voicemail followup.
With the streamlined user interface, the main screen now shows the number of new messages and each caller’s photo or avatar, which can be imported automatically from Facebook. Also, the message play screen supports fast-forward and rewind, allowing users to get through their messages even more efficiently. YouMail 2.0 users are now able to access any folder directly from the app, not just the inbox. This includes the standard Saved, Spam and Trash folders, as well as user-created folders. Users can also can turn their voicemail box into a “To Do” list by easily flagging messages for follow-up directly in the app.

YouMail is a cool service that gives you free visual voicemail for your BlackBerry, depending on what carrier you’re with. Recently, they’ve created some tie-ins with Facebook, allowing you to see your friends’ pictures when they leave you a voicemail. You can also share and post your voicemails to your Facebook wall. Personally, I haven’t tried the service as it’s not available in Canada on Rogers, so I’m jealous that Ronen at BerryReview gets to use the service.
To enable this feature, click the MySocialNetworks link in your YouMail account and it will connect you to Facebook. The Facebook feature is only available from the web, so don’t expect it to be available in the BlackBerry client. The company will also be extending its Twitter functionality soon so you can share your voicemails on Twitter.

YouMail have announced their DropBox service: a free service that allows users to integrate VoIP and PBX voicemail with your BlackBerry voicemail. To use this service, your VoIP or PBX must support delivering voicemails by email as an MP3 or WAV file.
Every YouMail customer has a DropBox at myphonenumber@my.youmail.com (ie. 8881234567@my.youmail.com). To setup this DropBox, change the email address that your VoIP voicemail is delievered to, to the DropBox email provided.
Once setup, all voicemails sent to your DropBox should then appear in the YouMail inbox. Once there in YouMail, you have access to key YouMail features including access from BlackBerry apps, voicemail sharing, spam filtering, and more. You’ll even get full Caller ID from most services.

Late last week YouMail launched Visual Voicemail Plus, a free visual voicemail application that works on the Blackberry Pearl, Curve, Bold and Storm. I like the sound of free, and a new visual voicemail application is always worth a try, but reports are surfacing that YouMail might not yet be up to snuff. Here’s what our main man Troy had to say over at BlackBerry News:
After 24 hours it is safe to say a lot work still needs to go into the application before it is ready for prime time much like the transcription service they charge for now. Many users including myself have experienced nothing but problems with the application… Maybe with all the ad revenue from placing ads on every aspect of your messages they can now put a little more money into their projects and refine their service. Time will tell.
We’re going to give YouMail our own thorough hands-on, but we recommend that you give it a try and post a comment on your experience. If you’re not willing to take the risk, however, post a comment and let us know of your favorite visual voicemail alternative.
