RBC Bans Blackberry PIN Messaging


The Globe and Mail is reporting, Canada’s largest bank RBC has banned PIN messaging for its capital market staff and is considering a company-wide banned because it can not monitor the messages. PIN-to-PIN messaging has been a favorite for many Blackberry users because it bypasses email servers and sends directly to one’s Blackberry. The bank plans to hire an outside firm to implement a tracking and archiving system for PIN-to-PIN messaging. PIN messaging came to light when CIBC filed a lawsuit against Genuity Capital Markets alleging that they improperly recruited 20 colleagues to start the new investment firm. CIBC brought to court several email and PIN messages of the accused discussing starting the new company.
