Weekend Contest ‘Improving Blackberry Cool’

Gmail Mobile
Blackberry Cool was started this year in January and has achieved much success in the short period of time. We want to thank everyone that has helped get it to what it is today, but it is now time once again to bring it to the next level. We’re going to use this Weekend Contest to selfishly get some reader feedback, we want to solicit you and how you think Blackberry Cool can improve.

This week we will be giving away 5 copies of Gmail Mobile. Gmail is a full-featured email application for BlackBerry, designed for popular Google Mail service. Like usual, we will be announcing the winners on Monday morning.

I think it would be “cool” if you had a BB + data plan tracker for the various carriers. It would be great to be able to go one place to see which carriers offer which BB models and compare the cost of their BB data plans.

I check this site regularly, and have read a lot of helpful reviews and suggestions.

2 things could improve Blackberry Cool-
    1. At the top of the page, where Home, Software Directory, Hardware Guide and Reviews are located-could drop down menus be added?
    2. This may not be feasible, but a forum of some sort would be great. It seems like many of the things in the Categories section could generate a lot of discussion. It would also make it easier to find news items or helpful hints.

I think it would be great if you would award the prizes from your contest that you ran for the original bulletin board. There was never even an announcement that the contest was cancelled. Just some acknowledgement that you screwed this one up may get me coming back. I still watch the RSS feed, but never visit the site because of the bitter taste left by the contest that I put quite a bit of time in posting to get eligible for.

I would really like to see a forum, it doesnt have to be extensive as BBForums but I still think having a forum would be a good idea.

  5. 5 Keith Adest

I would like to see two features added.

#1) a weekly roundup of devices you can purchase off of pricegrabber.com. This can be the actual blackberries, software, data plans, memory cards, bluetooth headsets.

    2) would like to see panel on left side, with top 25 applications / games.

Top 10 freebie software as well.

    Ohhh and one last one…

Take all daily blackberry tips, and put them into a small panel on the left side, and place a tip of the day button, so people can click through all the tips, which will give less clutter on the main news part.

I have said in the past, this site is top notch! Keep up the awesome work.

To be honest, i wouldn’t mind being a reviewer of new software’s either for the 7100. Let me know, you got my email. :-)

I love the site - a few thoughts:

    1) It’s really the software reviews I care most about: the ups-and-downs of patents and random carriers are just not interesting to my daily usage.

    2) Speaking of which… there are a bunch of new BB customers out there (like me) with 7100s. Getting basic tips for productivity on a regular basis would be great. The tips are few and far between (and it would be ok to replay old relevant ones).

    3) Software that shows up in the free software spotlight is often not free, like the current one. That’s a bit confusing. :)

Only a few mionor suggestions… the site kicks ass!

    1. bulletin board

    2. maybe a new look (ie new graphic design)

I luv my BBerry! and this site is on my must visit list every few days. I would like to see some Canadian content if possible and keep the graphics to a bare minimum, so the pages load fast. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Simple one, because this site is almost ideal:

Make the reviews one page, even if it’s a long one, because clicking through 4 or 5 pages is a pain in the ass. I know it’s to get eyeballs on the ads and that kind of thing, but at least give the option of “single page view,” like ESPN does now with their multi-paged content.

As mentioned before, I too really like this site.

My suggestion would be, and maybe this is because I just don’t understand RSS feeds, is to have a way to sign up to receive an email of articles. Maybe a separate email for each article. There isn’t that many daily articles so even a couple emails a day from bbcool wouldn’t be too much.

    Keep up the good work!

Love the website and I now have BBThumb, thanks to last weekend’s free game giveaway (Thanks again!)

My suggestion is that in the software directory (summary) with the date posted, rating and votes, that you list the type of software it is (freeware, trial, demo, commercial) and the cost of the software. That would be great to know before clicking to the vendor’s website.

Also, it’d be great to see the top 10: most downloaded, highest rated, and most recently added to the software directory.

One final note, you’ve got a spot for BB Links, but there isn’t anything there. Perhaps look to people to submit their best links. Last week’s winner with http://www.iyhy.com was by far one of the better links that I’ve seen here. It also made all my coworkers jealous of my “find” (until I broke down and gave them the address…)

I personally visit your site first thing every day to check out the latest BB news. Thank you for your work on keeping us updated.

My suggestions have been echoed above: a forum, latest tips or tip of the day, and good links to other BB sites.

The other day I was looking at you “About” page for information about you and your website, but the only thing on the page was a contact us form. I would add an about page and move that to a contact us page. Other than that you are doing a great job.
