Some Seattle cops use old-fashioned pedal power to patrol, but they are also using high-tech wireless information in their work. Blackberry devices are used to quickly retrieve information about possible suspects. Officers can track and retrieve information like license plates, vehicle and firearm registrations.

“It saves the officers a great deal of time to instantaneously get records,” said Jim Johnson of the foundation. “It would have taken hours to get before.”

Due to the success, the test program started last year has now a total of 40 Blackberrys as opposed to only 5 when the program first started out.
