RIM purchases SlipStream

SlipStreamDatamonitor ComputerWire is reporting that RIM has purchased SlipStream Data Inc., a company that develops optimization and acceleration technology for data delivery on mobile, broadband and dial-up networks. It has traditionally sold its Acceleration & Optimization Engine primarily to ISPs, though its support for VPN technology and HTTPS enables them to offer services to corporate customers. The move looks to be one by RIM to improve their BES service, although RIM said the technology “will be integrated across the entire BlackBerry platform (BlackBerry Internet Service, BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and handset software) to provide customers and carriers with enhanced performance.”
