PeeKaWho v.1.160 Reviewed!

View Comments

We’ve talked quite a bit about PeeKaWho here at BlackBerry Cool, but no one’s actually reviewed the product. BlackBerry Cool 15 nominee Robert Kao of SmrtGuard - the developer of Followup and SmrtGuard - brings Blackberry users this great piece of software.

If you’ve been looking for a reliable caller ID function for your incoming email and SMS text messages, look no further. PeeKaWho is great if you want to view your email or text messages at a glance while performing other functions on your Blackberry, like composing an email or surfing in the browser. You can also disallow PeeKaWho pop-ups when using certain applications, great for when you don’t want to be interrupted while you’re writing an email, viewing a video or dialing a call

I found this program to be very frustrating so I have tried to delete it. First of all, when the new message pop up comes on, it interrupts everything you are doing and you can't type, for example, until it disappears. It also seems to hang up my Blackberry for a protracted period of time...maybe 5-10 seconds after the message disappears. It would be great if the pop up disappeared when I typed something. And the hang up of the device is very frustrating. Now, after deleting it, my status light seems to blink and stay on a lot. I don't know if this is related. Maybe it didn't delete? What does the yellow status light indicate?

    No problem!!

I take that back - I just rebooted and SMS is working in V 1.2. Thank you Smrtguard! :)

I also have the Curve/Verizon and SMS is not working. I have tried the betas and have now upgraded to V 1.2 and it does not work on those versions. SmrtGuard support has been very supportive but not been able to resolve. Anyone?

I want that background, anyone know where its from ?
  • SmrtGuard

Yes, with some carriers, they prepend a 1 in front of the number. We have a beta out that fixes that issues(plus tons of other features). Check our website, there is a download link in the front page.

Also, for problem with current stable version, it is best to email
    support @ smrtguard . com

I've downloaded version 1.160 and the SMS popup is not working. I'm running on a Verizon Blackberry 8330 Curve.

The storm should kill the iphone due to verizons stake in the less populated rural areas. People are looking for a high speed data phone that not only works in the city but works in the backwoods as well. Att's gsm service lacks in these rural areas.
  • SmrtGuard

    There is a trial.

  • chris
    Is there a trial version?
I hope so, why would anyone be incline to pay not knowing how good the app is?!?!
  • SmrtGuard Support
One point on the "Con", you can allow the popup to stay on indefinitely if you uncheck "Auto Fade Popup" option.

Thanks for the review and support.

We are rolling out v1.165 in the next couple of days. It will have Email / SMS LED support, and much more.

Currently there is a 7 days beta trial v1.164 out.

Ya judging by the pics they show on their website (and here) it does look nice. Just change those icons!! Haha.
  • Jonathan Brandon
It will probably look amazing on a storm - it actually looks pretty good on a bold.
  • LouTreize
Nice review. Give it a few more features as suggested and you've got yourself a very useful application for the Blackberry (update those icons! Haha), and one that i'll definitely purchase. Can't wait to try this on the Storm.
