The German ninja at benezblog has leaked the upcoming BlackBerry Desktop Manager which is rumored to be bundled with the BlackBerry Bold 9700 aka the BlackBerry Onyx.

Desktop Manager 5.0.1.18 comes with a new feature that allows you to easily set up your BlackBerry as a modem so you can tether it to your laptop. It seems to be working but some users are having issues connecting. This is leaked software so all the kinks haven’t been worked out. If you’re unable to connect, you may still have to use an existing tethering solution such as TetherBerry.

Included with the rumor is a leaked copy of Desktop Manager 5.0.1.16, which includes the modem feature.

Try it out for yourself. Are you able to tether your laptop and your BlackBerry?

I can already tether my blackberry curve (8320) with desktop manager 4.5. I called T-Mobile customer service and had them walk me through the process to create a connection on my computer. All I need to do is connect via USB, open the desktop manager, and I’m connected.

I love this! I downloaded the updated desktop manager today, installed it and it’s been working great! My office blocks facebook and I needed to get my farming in on farmville and this did just the trick!

    Thanks for the heads up!

as of right now verizon has some software in the tour that automatically disables the ip modem software in the desktop(it does this when you connect the phone for the first time) but tetherberry still works still looking for a work around on this end

Installed and had IP connection setup until I plugged by Verizon 8330 Curve and the IP option went away. I have Sharkmodem but it basically sucks. Won’t hold a connection and sometimes very difficult to connect at all.
